I'm going to move this to performance, J. It doesn't have anything to do with forced induction.

How much of a change in the throw of the shifter is there between stock and this mod? Also, where can I find the PVC for the bushing? Lowes maybe?

2-4-6 gear seems to be kinda of far from the dash. Must be great for tall people this way. Great how-to!

It's not that much work and it's well worth it.
I didnt say it wasnt worth it, I would just want it like yours with the thing welded so it sits back, more towards the middle. I dont weld and I dont know anyone who does. Unless you want to weld it for me? lawl

Offline

Mel Ciruela Jr

Offline

Mel Ciruela Jr

oh ok but b4 i installed the nismo short shift and i have the B&M short throw 1st it was kind a hard but i use to it and then i took it out coz of my wife she said it so hard she ask me to take it out but when i had that i was miss shifting on thrid.

Mel Ciruela Jr

ok im gonna put it back on again

I would say that the shifts are half the length now. So much more comfortable though, I have yet to weld a nut in place for the shifter linkage to make the shifter sit back further.
On my setup though I didnt replace the bushing in the shifter linkage because it wasnt cracked or anything like that.

I have nothing to compare it to. I've never had any misshift problems, ok maybe once or twice, but it wasn't the shift assembly's fault.
same here.....never missed a shift yet

i did this mod. i love it. however i didnt cut off the hex part on the nut, didnt see a reason to and i didnt have a dremel. the shift really is alot shorter. at first when i looked down i couldnt tell if it was in netural or in fourth lol. for 9.55 and some tlc you really cant beat it. mad props j.

quick question, couldnt you drill and tap the hole and remove the stock shifter pin and place it in the new hole that was just drilled out? or does the stock pin not have any threads on it?if its justr a pin you could just tap the hole that was newly drilled and tap some threads on the stock pin,or would that not work?
Offline

i understand that, but im really lazy, i already have a thread and tapper set so in theory if you could use the stock pin then i can just pop the hood and do this mod with no parts or anything,i would just have to pull the pin, drill and tap the hole then thred the pin and walla, just wondering, what thread size and pitch would you reccomend if i were to go buy it?
Offline

okay, sounds better the way you suggested it,thanks for thr imput,it was quick,im also a member of nissanforums and sometimes it can take forever to get a response for a question.

What size bit, tap and bolt did you use?
Offline

Geoff

i accidentally drilled all the way through with the wrong bit, so instead i just put a bolt with a lock nut and was golden. love it.

Big J: Does this put your shifter "into" the cupholders if you will. Like other sts such as axxtion etc, they need the center adapter. Does this move it into the front of the shifter hole in the console alot? Does it hit the front?

what do you mean you welded the nut to the cable end?? and how is it 5 cents if you need something to weld it? srry for all the questions but also what does this do? and is it safe?
Online

Josh

Yes I seen that but is it doable without welding the nut on? I don't really wanna do that. But would it work ok without the nut?

Nice, I think i'm gonna do it tomorrow. I'll rock it without the nut. Does it come real close to the front by the cupholders?

Well I did this today. Came out good. I have to get another bolt and make it a bit smaller. Its a little high but the throws are nice now. Thanks Big J.

How did you figure out how to do this, if you don't mind me asking.
Also I had to cut a little bit of the treads off my bolt I used. Did you drill all the way through the piece and then tap it? How far did you drill?I think mine is fine, I have about a half an inch of threads in there and its threadlocked and hasn't moved. You think it'll be ok?

Ok thanks. I was just nervous that I only got about a 1/2inch of thread in the hole. Should be fine.

Stupid question, but is this mod for a STOCK shifter?
It just seems hard to believe, seeing as how short shifters cost up to hundreds of dollars, where as this mod is next to nothing!
Offline

Geoff

yeap this is meant to be done to a stock tranny. it works great.

Josh

Yes, this is the cheap mans way of getting what he/she wants. It works great! I'm so glad I did it.

FYI all Late year 04+ owners. We have a larger shifter bushing (67mm). if you have this larger bushing, the 12$ mod will not work right for you. You have been warned.

Justin did this install on an 05 and it worked fine. The placement of the new stud is important.....it will work.

For sure. It will work, just getting the placement perfect ends up being the trick for the bigger ones. You have no room for mistake really. Everything gets pretty tight with the bigger bushing. Mines an 04 but has the smaller bushing, idk, whatever the deal is it'll work both ways but the bigger one is just a little more tricky.
