After reading a bunch of posts and doing this myself ive updated this post with the colors of the wires on the ecu and the correct pin diagram.
The diagram must be viewed from the side of where the wires come out of the back in order for it to work. So instead of doing all sorts of stuff Ive updated the diagram with where the wires are exactly, with the colors:
CREDIT GOES TO: GUROV for the diagram and Darsondriss for the ecu wire colors.
Purpose SAFC WIRE COLOR Diag Pin# Correct Pin# ECU wire Color
Power Red Wire 109 102 Red W/Green Stripe
RPM Green 36 93 Blue W/Orange Stripe
Knock Purple 82 24 Clearish
TPS Grey 73 15 White
Ground Black 108 115 Black *Special Instructions-
Ground Brown 108 115 Black *Special Instructions-
MAF Output Yellow 72 16 Orange W/Blue Stripe *Output from MAF. Cut ecu wire half, and connect this to Maf side*
MAF Input White 72 16 Orange W/Blue Stripe *Input from SAFC to ECU*
Now some special instructions are that the grounds must each be connected to the same ground wire, but cannot be connected together. The brown wire goes closer to the ECU. Must do or your TPS sensor is off.
Done wiring it up?

Well, there are plenty of threads here about bits and pieces of the SAFC setup out there.
Shane, Josh and Myself were installing Shane's SAFC II and we decided to take pictures of the whole setup process. This had nothing to do with tuning at all. This is just to make everything easier for people.
Step 1.
After installing your SAFC II properly, put the car's ignition into the "ON" position. DO NOT TURN ON THE ENGINE!! Running with another cars tune, or settings may damage your car. You have been warned.
Step 2.
First you will need to initialize the unit. This is basically clearing out any old settings or tune, so you start with a clean slate.
At the main menu, go down and click on the "Etc." sub menu.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0080.jpg
Next scroll down to the "Initialize" option and click it.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0081.jpg
When the AFC asks if you want to "Init. All?" hit yes.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0082.jpg
Step 3.
Now, back at the main menu go into the "Etc." sub menu to set up the car.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0083.jpg
The first setting is sensor type. This is the MAF type and signal info.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0085.jpg
Our cars have a Hot Wire type MAF, select "Hot Wire".
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0086.jpg
Now, this has been in debate on the Sensor Numbers. Both 18 in 18 out and 24 in 24 out have worked. I used 18/18 on my car, and that is what we did with Shane's.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0087.jpg
Next is the sensor calibration. This is 1 in 1 out.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0089.jpg
Step 4.
Next setting is the Car Type. Back into the "Etc." Sub Menu select the "Car Type" option.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0090.jpg
Our cars are 4cyl and the throttle signal is the arrow going up.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0091.jpg
Step 5.
Back into the "Etc." sub menu select sensor check.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0094.jpg
This displays some of the signals.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0096.jpg
What you will need to do in the sensor check screen is put the car in 1st gear, then hold the throttle closed (foot all the off the pedal) for 10 seconds and then fully open (foot to the floor) for 10 seconds. You should see the volts go up. Like this.
Fully closed:
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0096.jpg
Fully Open:
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0097.jpg
Step 6.
Now you will need to calibrate your knock sensor.
So what you do is turn the ignition COMPLETELY off for 10 seconds. And now proceed to turn your car on (it's okay now).
Drive it around a bit, make sure the throttle is fine and your MAF isn't putting your car in limp mode. It's not right? Good. Check the RPMs are accurate at different RPMs as well.
After the car is warmed
Now you need to calibrate the knock sensor. Find a place where you can make some noise, cause you're going to revving the engine.
With the car still on, go into the "Settings" sub menu
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0113.jpg
And select the "Knk Set" Option.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0115.jpg
Now, what you need to do is rev the car up to the two RPMs. Lower one first and higher second. Take as much time as you need. It's tough keeping the RPMs at a single point. When you are STEADY at the right RPM, hit the button, that will set the knock at that RPM.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0118.jpg
Repeat for the next RPM.
And there you go!! Your car is all set up!!

Now once you have your SAFC II set up you want to view all the nice pretty data right?
Well there are multiple ways of displaying this data. And here they are.
At the main menu go into the "Monitor" sub menu.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0099.jpg
Select how many channels you want to view (I keep it at 4)
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0100.jpg
Next is selecting WHICH channels you want to see.
I watch RPM, Knock (Knk), Throttle and Correction.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0101.jpg
The first view is just the Numerical values of everything.http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0102.jpg
If you hit the next button, you will see it's now a graph.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0104.jpg
The 3rd view is only two gauges, so that's what you're stuck at.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0105.jpg
and the last view is a pretty way of showing all 4 values at once. Most people like this one.
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175 … C_0106.jpg
AND HERE IS THE GOON AND HIS CAR WHO WE SET THIS ALL UP FOR!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
I had to Shane![]()

Whats that "correct pin column" its just confusing as hell.. Just look at the pins from the side that the wires are on and count from that side and there is no problem.. I just did one one a 02 with no problems whatsoever.. your making it way to hard and i would be confused if I did not know what I was doing and seen that correct pin thing you have. IMO
Lifes to short to drive a shitty car, get in a Spec V-T

^ But its a pain in the ass to count the correct pins when you cannot see it. This way you can still look at the diagram and see where the wire will be.
