technosquare rpm reflash?

I swear I read somewhere that this is pointless for an auto, but I can't find the thread anywhere. A buddy of mine is asking why, but I can't remember why it doesn't work... Or maybe I'm just totally wrong and it will work for autos... Any info would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Re: technosquare rpm reflash?

IDK if anyone has raised it on an automatic car.  I raised it to 6800 on my Spec V for $150 + shipping both ways.  You'll want to call them and ask if they can reflash your ecu, find the type on the outside of the ecu itself.

Re: technosquare rpm reflash?

Also, if you aren't heavily modded, it's a waste of time.  These cars already don't make power to the stock redline, let alone above that.  You'd need cams or boost to actually want it.

Re: technosquare rpm reflash?

with the auto you may need to change the shift point in the tranny as well to make good use of raising your redline

Re: technosquare rpm reflash?

You're not making any power in those rpms anyway, save your money.

Re: technosquare rpm reflash?

What we were debating on was whether or not it'd work in my car... We are planning on doing a BSR, JWT cams, wideband, SAFC2 (tuned) and Transgo shift reprogramming kit this winter. But we weren't sure if the reflash would do anything

Call them and find out, like I said I'm not sure if they reflash the auto ecu's.

Re: technosquare rpm reflash?

you need to get either a piggyback or standalone TCM controller, like the SupraStick v4, then you can raise the shift point to whenever you want it to. With that it should work, just make sure to upgrade the valvetrain as well...

Would the Transgo reprogramming shift kit take care of the valvetrain? Maybe a dumb question, but transmissions are NOT my thing. lol

Thanks!

The valvetrain has nothing to do with the transmission, and you don't need any upgrades to rev to 6800, I run on stock valve springs just fine, even with giant cams.

He ever said anything about how far he was raise the rev limiter ya know...what if he wanted to go to 7? Higher than that? I was just assuming he wanted to go a lot higher...

Just by shifting it yourself? I usually shift it around 6k, but that's only b/c the wife is yelling at me to stop before I blow it up smiley-smile  But I always wondered how far I could push it... Good to know

Going higher than 7k is just foolish anyway, unless the motor was going to be fully built and heavily modified.  These motors are not designed for high rpm operation, they don't make any power up there.  Even with really big cams, I still make peak hp a little above 6k (vs 5600 on stock cams).  Revving high and making no power there is not worth stressing the rotating assembly.
