So to make a long story short...I got a letter yesterday from the Nissan dealer where I bought my Spec-V
Basically the letter said...I am invited to a private sale because my car is in high demand and they want to buy it back...and they will give me top dollar for it and a great deal on another car....So I called today to make sure it was legit and not some scheme to get people into the dealership...
anyways....I told them I owe $10K yet and if they can get me out from under my loan we might have a deal......So I am going tomorrow to talk some figures....I know it sounds to good to be true...but fuck it....I dont have anything to lose.....and I am really liking the 08-09 Altima 3.5 Coupe
wish me luck!
What would you do if you were in my situation??
Is It 4:20 Yet??Offline

There is no way they're going to give you 10k for that car. If they give you the appearance that they are, it's because they're raping you somewhere else.

Ok here's how it works....
They tell you they will get you out from under it, but what they DONT tell you, is that whatever you owe, over the value THEY set for the car (not KBB or N.A.D.A.), rols into whatever car you end up buying...
Then when you trade it in, they turn around and sell the car for a little more than what you owed, so they can pull off showing someone what they "paid" for it...
if you do it, your an idiot

shred that letter, that's a pretty common technique to get you all pumped up and get you in the door and get you to trade your car in for much less than it's worth to buy a new one.
these cars don't ever go into "high demand" that's a load of shit.
sorry to disappoint.

i would jus keep the Spec and pay it off.... ive made some really stupid choices with those things and now im in WAY over my head...$500 a month for an 06 Spec V isnt something to brag about...but i do love my ride...dont get rid of your Spec bro, jus make bigger payments, pay it off and enjoy actually owning a car

All dealers send those letters to everyone.
It's a money generator for them. They don't make money when you keep the same car.
Main advice. DO NOT LET THEM ADD NEGATIVE EQUITY (UPSIDE-DOWN) TO A NEW CAR LOAN.
They will pull all kinds of tricks. Like setting a monthly payment you like, and not telling you its a 6 or 7 year loan.
Be careful, take a parent or friend with you.

being a salesman for a large dealership, it doesnt always mean they are raping you some where else. its the end of the year and ecomony etc. a vehicle off the lot at a lose is much better than it sitting there adding interest and losing value. i will say this as a tip go see what they will do and if it doesnt work for you get the fuck out. but always always remember the numbers working or not working is way out of the salesmans hands!!! and we are not bad guys at all at least some of us arent some are there to help and be a great service. Some yes are out to get your ass fucked over and get a car gone but you can tell the difference between us.
^ thats my quick story but the moral of that BS is---- Go find the vehicle youd like dont sound that interested but just say things like "ya i wouldnt mind that car" or "it would be nice" and shit like that deals are harder for the manager and F and I guys if you half way could care less. FYI
if you have a few hours to waste go for it bud it may end up being a good day but it may have not been but at the same time you got a shit ton of information

I didnt' know the origonal owners bought they car there, so it was a surprise to say the least. He got heckled by the senior salesguy, who told him he knew I worked here, and wouldn't do it...he didn't listen. Needless to say, he no work there no more
Honestly dude, if you really want to get rid of your car, and you have GAP, burn it claim it was stolen, and get a new car, sure your rate will go up some, but you'll be out of that Sentra and into a newer car (or older, whatever you have your heart set on)

like i said he doesnt work there anymore...he was a small fat guy with long hair in a ponytail, and had a messed up grill. He was actually kind of famous around the dealership, as the creepy salesguy, who always came back to parts with customers to sell them wheels for cars they hadn't even bought yet...the guy even called everyone chief, like he was some kind of big shot
i was amsused
but back on topic. My advice, pay off the car more, get that loan amount down, and then trade it in. With Specs valued at what they are, you'd be sily to do it with so much left

its hard as hell to try to appraise / trade in a spec or similar vehicle because its not a vehicle that some random 40yr man looking for a car is gonna by but most MOST MOST MOST ppl/ Dealerships have no clue the value of a spec or gti or si vehicles like that

wow, I got my car valued at $1500 at a dealership, because of a scuff on the front bumper...they said that was KBB, then I showed them the website print out of the value, and then said it was N.A.D.A., and after I showed them the printout from the N.A.D.A. website, they just gave my keys back, they just stopped trying
going to dealerships is honestly a enjoyable time for me, I know a little about how it works (working for a dealership), and when salesmen figure it out, they probably say to themselves..."fuck, this guy knows..." and stop trying to actually sell me a car. I also never try and talk to a salesmen. I go to the Sales Manager, tell him the last time I was here, I was treated very rudrly, and they help me themsleves...and I have gotten much beter deal offers
It seems like I always have to deal with the biggest douchbag there. I have had good experiences with good salesmen who actually care, but 8 out of 10 are just horrible

believe me i absoultly understand every single bit of what you say but also never ever forget that a salesman is just like anyother person.
with that said some salesman i would never never never ever even talk to but at the same time the commision is never nearly as much as ppl think it is most cars commision is between 50-100 where i am because we dont try and fuck ppl over. ****80% of dealerships are stealerships***
always give the salesman a fair chance if they dont meet or exceed your expectations tell them to get you another salesman or there sales manager

thats exactly what I do. I expect the salesman to know exactly what they are doing, and know if they are good at their job or not. I know what questions should be asked to better help them do what they can to getme into a vehicle, and the only time I can remember the sales guy who actually did a great job, couldn't get me into the car, becasue of my credit situation. Not only did he get one of the Finance Managers, they FM checked tons of banks, while I was sitting there on speaker phone, they even emailed, and called me to tell me that they couldn't find a bank that would help me out 2 days later...
I mean even the deal was good (and I know when it should be). It was a 2006 Infinti G35 Sedan 6spd with 25K or so mil, and they offered me 11K out the door. They only gave the guy $9K for it or so, and said as long as they made ANYTHING, they would be happy. They were also the onyl Nissan dealership here in Phoenix, that sold the GTR for the MSRP of $73K...so I believed them,a nd for good reaosn
If I really wanted a Nissan, I would go there instead of the place I worked at for sure...
other than that, all the dealerships I've been to are full of morons, and I am suprised that they are even in business...

Im friends with alot of salesmen at the dealers i work at and Id be safe to say to stay away from about 75% of them.
Some are creeps, some weirdos, some jerk-offs. Find a good salesman, one that watches you from a distance before they come close. I also recommend asking for a manager. Dont be a dick with the manager and get straight to the point. They have too much to do in a day then to sit and discuss price with you. Thats what salesmen are for.

I sell Nissan as well. Before that I sold VW. I have owned 5 GTi's, and I am on my second spec. I know how hard it is from both sides, as a salesperson and a compact car nut I am usually designated to deal with these situations at the stores I worked for. I didn't see what year or condition your spec is, but sentras are high this year from the gas prices and it very well might be worth what you need, that is about what mine was bought for at sale a little over a year ago. As for the coupe, have your local dealer do a search of all manual coupes in your area. You can get the 2.5s for well under $20k and a 3.5se in the low 20's.
Just my .02
And the salesperson can still feed his family.

The letters are to get you in the door, you're no different than any other potential customer, although they may offer you a previous nissan owners credit during sale (sometimes around $1000 off retail) Basically its a case of how well you negotiate the deal and if its worth getting out of what you have w/ how much you owe into a new loan. For example if you owe 10k and can pay that off in 2 years you will own your car in 2 years vs. getting your current car "paid off" and starting a new 5-6 year loan. IMO 2 years of debt is a hell of alot better than 5 years of debt. You also have to see how it will impact your beacon score by going into a new loan. I speak from experience because that same letter had gotten me into the dealership and even though i had sold cars there in the past they were still determined to make money and even with me kowing all the tricks of the trade it still took me awhile to negotiate the deal to my liking, I had traded in my sunburst 03 for my current black 06 and if I would've kept the 03 I would have owned it outright as of last April which I think about often. Good luck in your descision making and hope this helped.
