Hey everybody. I'm new so if I sound stupid, I'm sorry. I've got a 2002 spec V and the person who owned it before me hammered it pretty bad. I'm almost positive it was in a fairly severe front end crash and some idiot decided to fix it very half assed. Then an even bigger idiot (me) bought it before really taking a close look at it. I have been burning through MAF sensors like crazy. I know that there are plenty of posts on here already about this and I have read through a lot of them. My situation is a little bit different though. I have gone through 5 in under a year and the last two were within 3 days of each other. The weirdest part about it is that it goes out when i rev my engine above about 5000 rpm, or at least it has for the last two. Any thoughts? A mechanic i have been working with thought that maybe the ECU was sending a voltage spike to the sensor, causing it to fail.

I suspect my bad alternator caused my ECU to fail, but have nothing to back it up. I have seen quite a few bad alternators, so it might be worth pulling (along with your battery), and bringing into your local vatozone. I might also suggest checking the wiring harness for obvious frays.

the alternator hasn't been a problem since I've owned the car so I don't think that's it. I'll take a look at the wiring harness though.

Your car is in limp mode... which isn't always because of a bad MAF.
