Racing Seats - how do you choose?

Ok, so Im interested in choosing a racing seat for my Spec.
BUT, I don't know how to find one I like when there aren't any decent shops around that stock them.

How did you guys choose a seat?
I'm pretty picky when it comes to what I choose for my car.
Seats are one thing i'm having trouble deciding on.

Fit seems to be an awfully important thing to leave to chance.

Re: Racing Seats - how do you choose?

DAD are nice seats.

Xonix, first off, do you have a budget??  Also, I assume you want recliners, correct??  unless you really want full fixed back "race seat"

most of the ones mentioned above like Sparcos etc. are pretty expensive.  Remember, you need the seat,  sliders, mounting brackets.

This all adds up.

Corbeau makes decent seats too at a reasonable price.   Many seats are Tube Frame.   Their ok for street use but not SFI approved since they can bend more easily in an accident.

Lastly, how big are you??   I'm 5'11, 235ish.   I needed the largest seat Sparco makes for my fat arse....

Lucky for me, I have some race shops around where I could try them out.  If you have any race tracks around, go and see if you can try out some guys seats... This will help.

I bought them used off a friend and made the brackets... i think you can find them new for maybe $400 or $500? I'm not sure about that tho.

I'm 5'11" 280. So I need a wide f*cker too.
I have a budget, but not concerned about money as much as I am fitment/feel.
I obviously need a pretty diesel seat if it's gonna hold me from flopping around.

I've tried the Tenzo Rs but they were a touch too snug for my tastes and the seat I tried was half broken anyway so it was creaky. (Not great for a first impression)

DADs look cool. Any other suggestions? Or places you can go to try these things out?

I don't mind spending the money. I just want something that fits and is a well manufactured recliner.

Yea... i like em... probably gonna buy a new set of the same ones whenever these fall apart... my friend who had them before me had a B14 that they came out of... so we just took the B14 brackets and cut and welded them to fit a B15 lol.

Re: Racing Seats - how do you choose?

Just so you know the seat bracket matches an older maxima.  SO you could always just upgrade to some leather maxima seats for your big booty.  But find a sparco dealer near you and call them up if they have floor models.  Or any brand you are looking for.  It's usually the best.  I have a post somewhere with what years of Maxima's it is so search it out if you want.

Re: Racing Seats - how do you choose?

I got some seat brackets for a corb... (who knows how to spell that???) race seat and when it showed up it was labeled Nissan Maxima 00-01.
That's my info. I never tried to install one.  Might be a fun trip to a junk yard if they'll let you try... but I don't know for sure but it is a credable company.
