Which summer tire should i get?

i am deciding between the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star spec and yokohama s. drive. tirerack rates them in a different catagory, the star specs in extreme performance summer and the s.drives in ultra high performance summer. will the star specs last shorter than the s.drives? the star specs are an excellent price costing much less than the potenza re-01 and tirerack rated them better than the potenzas. i know the star specs are probably stickier than the s.drives. what advantages and disadvantages will i get with these tires?

Re: Which summer tire should i get?

just look at the treadwear rating the higher the number (up to 600) the longer they will last. meaning the Yokohamas will last longer.

Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star spec

Specifications:
    Treadwear: 200
    Traction: A
    Temperature: A
    Speed Rating: Z

Yokohama s. drive

Specifications:
    Treadwear: 300
    Traction: A
    Temperature: A
    Speed Rating: Z

just my .02 you can get Falken RT615s for the price of the Yokohamas with performance similar to the Dunlops

thats what i am using for autocross

Out of those choices I'd get the Star Specs

Re: Which summer tire should i get?

I really like my S drives. They are great in the rain which was useful as we had a rainy summer. The tire is more than sticky for the street so I had no complaints there. That said the tire didin't make alot of noise under hard turning so I was never sure where the limit of grip was and I was careful not to cross where i assumed it to be. My next tires will be the RT-615s as they are said to have a progressive breakaway and the yokos are more abrupt.
I really dont have any complaints for the yokos tho. I did get them on sale smiley-smile .

Coming soon: Ksports, SS brake/clutch lines, HPS pads? Nismo RSB? TBS?

I will get Falken Azenis RT-615 in 235/40/17 as my next tire as well... Those are badass tires...

Re: Which summer tire should i get?

i ran my dunlops last summer from may to september. the tire had amazing grip in the dry and slightly wet surfaces hence theyre my autox tire. i was contemplating the falken earlier this year but didnt have the size i needed for my 16's. i would use the yoko's as my summer tire for daily driving and the dunlops for autox/light track use.
