Damn dealership and insane labor costs!!!

So i went to the dealership this morning for an oil change, and while i was there i asked about installing an auto dimming rearview mirror in my car.  So i needed to order the mirrior and the wiring harness which came out to be around $186, then he told me that it was labor intensive and the headliner had to be pulled back and that it would costs $400 dollars for labor and im like fock that.  So i was wondering if the labor is really that expensive just for auto dimming mirrior and if that BS about the headliner is true.

I called to get some estimates on installing the Nismo shocks/springs and the Nismo header a while ago and was told the labor charge is different for each. He said 120 an hour for the suspension work and 75 an hour for the header install. :-/

He also said the suspension work would take him 5 hours, and the header 3. Heh.

We charge 2.2 hrs for each strut, although it takes less than 15 mins for the whole job. Our labor rate is 84/hr. The header is a bit excessive as well, We put a Nismo header and catback for some kid and only charged him 2.5 hrs.

Re: Damn dealership and insane labor costs!!!

Sadly usually no matter how long it takes, its charged by the book.

Newer car without seized bolts, not having 100k woth of road grime, lift and air tools makes things so easy.  5 hours is an insane amount of time for the suspension with nothing but basic hand tools and jack and stands.

However, does the b16 come with an option for auto dimming mirror or is it just something aftermarket?  If its stock the plug might be hidden, but if it is something aftermarket no reason why the wires can't be tucked under the headliner and ran down the A pillar to its power source.  Thats how the wires for my screens are ran, didn't take me long at all.  Granted its a b15 but still same basic principal.

Re: Damn dealership and insane labor costs!!!

Go to a different dealer then.My local dealership charges about 70-75,i dont remember exactly, but it doesnt change depending on the job.Of course, some dealers charge their customers different(just like some dealer dont wanna touch a car with aftermarket parts). My local dealer is more than happy to work on my car(esp if theres nismo parts involved).Point being, the quote seems inflated for the suspension.

So if his is an 07 or early 08 then he won't have any plug up there to have to get to, meaning he can just run the wires tucked right behind the headliner without pulling it off, down the A pillar and behind the dash to the fusebox to tap into something.

And even if he did have a plug, I'd assume it would be right there by the front anyways, probably some fishing with your hand would find it.
