1) you probably can't
2) why do you need to?

The Spec-V isn't exactly speed limited. It's got a rev-limiter @ 6250rpms. You must be able to overcome drag to go faster (mmm, FI) or have a really really long road. If you wanna go faster mph per gear then raise ur redline.

it was the first time i ever took it and supposedly they had just changed my cat cuz i had an check engine ...also did a floor mat recal and i think another one that had to do with some foam or something on the ecu

well, that's not really the point.
there's no governor on the specs as far as we know. i.e. i've taken mine to 150ish, you need the power to do so, but it's doable.

the spec is gear-limited with stock redline at 160

well i used to hit 130 when i had my 5 speed trans and bounce off of the rev limiter...and once i took it to the dealer i would no longer bounce off the limiter i would just stay stuck at 125 and my car felt slower ...for some reason...i thought it was my imagination at first ..probably still is but i know for sure i cant go past 125...i tried...and i have 6th gear now i'm like at 5k at 125mph...i bought my spec used...

its pulling i hear the engine screaming...and i get to 125 and it gets really quiet and just glides like if i was on cruise control...will not go faster or slower no matter what i do if i stay in 5th or shift to 6th...just glides and gets quiet

yeah i know about transmissions ang gear limits and all that good stuff...i just dont understand why i used to be able to and now i cant..and it bugs me...not that i go 125 all that often but i still want to be able to go faster

did you swap your ecu to a spec ecu when you swapped your engine and tranny? Isn't the ser governed to 125?

that could be a possibility...but i never swapped ecu's and i was always able to go past 125 before my car went in for a recall...and anyway i looked up the ecu's and to my knowledge the part numbers are the same

ehh... it was pretty crawling... i'd say more power is needed...

alright...i'll take your word for it...thanks man...sorry for bugging you
by any chance...is the spec v ecu different from the Manual SE-R ecu?

it would be... since they put Z rated tires on the spec vs non-Z rated tires on the spec, they don't want people going over the tire rating of the se-r

If you had access to a lift you could find out really easy if its the ecu

this is true....i can lol...i'm going to try that approach instead of heading out on the highway and trying to get to 125+ in traffic lol

mmm i think that's a pretty good advice.

Took a while but i found this...finding an ecu for cheap is gonna be tough.

while that's a cool site, you don't know if you're getting a specv ecu or se-r ecu.

still dont think its your ecu though.

yeah, test it out with no load... should also tell you if your wheels are out of balance reaaaaly well.

Your stock speedo at that speed isn't the most accurate. I wouldn't doubt if the 5 mph difference isn't just the speedo being off a bit.

yeah i'm going to get it in the air tomorrow and see how fast i can get it before i hit the "limit" ....if their really is a limit if not i think its going to be a mission looking for a spec v ecu...can i put in any year spec v ecu? or does it have to be from an 02?

Offline

if you need a spec ecu talk to travis im pretty sure he will have one for a good price.

i was thinkin of asking him so i guess i'll see if i'm going to need one after tomorrow

You need an 02-03 ECU.
The 04-06 ECU is different and won't work with your engine harness...

Also, the ECU's vary if they have the NATS thingy or not. 5P and 5L are the two ones I can think of, not sure if there's others. 5P is the NATS ECU for an '02, I know that much.

k well i have no nats so i'll probably have to look for 5L...well i went out and got the car in the air to see how fast i can get it up to...took the tires off to reduce vibrations...this vid is at full throttle 100% of the time except toward the end bout last 8 seconds...where i try to see if i can sneak by the limiter by playing with the throttle...it looks like i hit the limiter at 130 in 5th gear...i shift to 6th and put my foot down...and it will not go past 5300ish rpm or 130mph...listen to how bad it just bogs while trying to keep me from going past 130...and i guess now we really cant say its a power issue...

i really don't know what to tell you. it does seem like its cutting out right as you get up to 130.

yeah and it bogs like crazy...yours is a manual se-r right? not specv

Offline

Geoff

yeah its a se-r. But I personally never pushed it past 130. I'm too scared either way. but it does look like there is a limiter. you might want to get a new ecm in it and see if that helps.

Do you REALLY need to go that fast in a car that takes 2+ miles to get that fast? honestly?

no i dont need to go that fast...and its really rare that i even try...but my whole thing is that i used to be able to before i went in for a recal this was about a year and a half ago...but i only tried it twice since, also after the recal my car felt like it was lagging in comparison to before....so i'm wonderin if the ecu is diff...and also se-r's are rated at 165hp and specs are rated at 175hp...i know mechanicaly they're the same ..asside from the transmission...i now have an 06 engine and 6spd specv trans.... i'm wonderin if the ecu is really makes the difference in speed and hp

+1, seriously..if it was a more high performance car I'd say look into it more.. Its a sentra, no need to go that fast in it..And when you do it takes forever without boost. Just leave it be.

You have an SE-R, right?
Because your garage says you have a Spec V, and it's a little confusing and what car you have...
The SE-Rs weren't equipped stock with tires that could handle over 130 so they were governed...

Yes the difference between SE-R and SpecV is all in the ECU... They are mechanically identical...

Different tuning maps make all the difference. And accounts for why premium gas is "recommended" for Spec Vs, but not for SE-Rs (at least that's my reasoning... more aggressive timing on the Spec V would benefit from a higher octane gas, if that was the case).
