i'm running toyo proxes 215/45/17 on my '02 specV and they are wearing very choppy, meaning towards the outside there's lot of peaks and valleys which causes the tire to be loud onthe highway.
the car does not have any suspension mods and has new struts even though my mechanic told me that they ones that he removed, which had about 100K on them, looked great.
the car has been aligned before and after.
any ideas...???

do you drive on a lot of choppy roads? just a thought. normally uneven wear would be an alignment issue.

When was the last time you rotated your tires?

What you are describing is usually a Strut issue, but maybe not in this case... idk what would cause that...

i do lot of highway driving, but there's no choppy roads that stand out. the car was aligned when i got the tires, and after i changed all four struts and was always within spec although the funny thing is that when i bought the car the proxes that were on it were also worn this way. note that this car has not been in any accidents, and i actualyl started thinkign that maybe it's just a "norm" for these cars but doesn't sound like it...???

Check for loose front end parts.. Inner/Outer Tie Rods, ball joints, struts. If nothing then check the air pressure and balance.

rotate your tires more often..every 3-4k is best.
Lifes to short to drive a shitty car, get in a Spec V-T

been there done that and besdies not rotating the tires wouldn't explain why they are wearing choppy

Did you see the alignment printouts yourself? If you have a copy post it, I'd like to see.

rotation has alot to do with wear...they need to be on the other side of the car though...flip em and run em like that for a while and your problems wiil deminish...thats why im a big fan of asymetrical tires it lets you rotate em to all four corners easliy

if close to the sidewalls thats a sign of low tire pressure, if its the center, thats a sign of over inflation
my tires are choppy on the outside but thats because im lowered and they rub

true but i think he's getting some "cupping" issues...inflation wouldnt solve that...

also lets not rule out a possible manufacturer issue
take them to wherever you bought them and get them warrantied

yup i work for americas tire take it there and see what they say they'll check it out and even rotate it for free

In case this hasnt been adressed yet... If your getting the choppy tire wear that could be cause by faulty rims or and unbalanced tire... The rim could have some sort of egg shape to it... But thats prolly not likely if its happening to all 4 tires... Or there is a heavy spot somewhere in the tire...

"to spec" really means nothing since factory specs are a pretty wide margin
