so i've never seen this diagram in b15 manual, it's in 2007+ QR fsm. posting it here for filing and archiving (and for shoving it into manufacturer's faces when you ask them if their product will work on our cars)
notice how there are 4 triggers in the 720 degree rotation, and the cam shaft signal represents the cylinder about to fire (i THINK, this is fairly confusing)

Not sure what you are saying here. Are you asking what changes the cam phasing?

there's probably an internal variable that is "intake cam is X degrees"
then there's a map that's "maf v vs rpm vs throttle" or something like that that says "cam should be X avanced
then there's always the adjustment of if it's this advanced, advance it This much to get to target.
you'd really have to take over the solenoid to be able to control it
hope this makes seome sense.
