( UPDATE ) Rival / '87 Nissan 300ZX "FairladyZ Z31"/ Killeen T.X.

Today I just bought her off this older gentlemens Hands for a wopping $1000 Cash

Only thing I can find wrong is some Rust, alot of pennies every where inside, and Leaking powersteering(which maybe coming from the fact it needs a new Rack and Pinnion)

( Dec. 23th, 2008 )
-----------

FIRST OFF, I SUCK at translating my thoughts into Text, Being dyslexic will do that.
I can only really type what I am able to say to my self, And without any true understanding of the proper use of Grammar,Be prepared to read alot....alot of run-on sentences......

I was given Some money out of a Settlement from the accident that claimed my 2004 "Sunburst" SE-R (A/T)

I ended up buying with that money a Red 1987 Nissan 300ZX (A/T)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v187/VirgoRival/RL%20pics/DSCF0122.jpg

So far, she is in Fairly good shape, but thing could had been a HELLofalot better
Given she was a Daily Driver
for a 21 year old car with 181,000+ miles, I'd say she is in good shapes

Here is a list of issues I was informed on Purchase and have discovered

Engine
The Legendary VG30

ok their isn't anything legendary about it that I have seen so far
But some issues I've notice with the phsical engine it self is that its worn
181K miles will do that, and I knew that
but it Smokes after a few minutes, I have NO idea what that means

I am certain its burning oil due to the Smell of Burning OIL!, great, if I had noticed this the first time when I test drive her, I may have stayed away from the car
Smoke is coming out the tail in, but its nothing horrific, not like what I've seen allowed to take up the same space on the road as everyone else
So I brushed that by, what concerned me was the light smoke was from rear of the engine bay, I am only hopping its coming from the heat sink thats around the headers

and has a Harsh Idel when started and will bog down from 1.5-2K RPM to about >1K
I don't have experience with a car this old, so I Don't know if its suppose to do this....

and MOST Fustrating is that the battery keeps dying
it finished off the battery that was in the car, and he told me he bought another one

I bought a brain-New battery, and less then a week and a half, it wouldn't start the car
I'm sure its just something is still On inside the car that is draining it, but What? and where to begin?...

update12/28- Well the battery was K.O.'d, it wouldn't hold a charge but it was replaced for free
It was suggested to me it may be the alternator, and my attempt to remove it was in noway helpful
Way to much work to get it out, I'm going to need alot of time to do it, starting to wish I could just Make my self a Pit to work on the car...

Body
-Exterior

The body in a whole is just that, WHOLE, all but one tiny unnoticeable dent that took some searching for to find
The only iffy-ness of it is the from bumper, after really look at her after parking in front of her-facing her for a few days, I notice the driver lights where twisted the same direction away from there placement housing, as if the passenger side met a curb, Wonderful, the front end Frame MAY be warped....
Which would explain why the hood seems like its slanted Into the engine bay and towards the driverside headlight, infact, it doens't let it come up on its open, it block it from opening right

Paint....Gone, No saving it, the Clear coat is all by pealed away from the hood, roof, and hatch. half way down both front and rear fenders, and spider flaking off the front bumper
dire need of a Paint job
am Planning on having her painted Black with Red accent, what kind of accents?, I'm not sure....

-Intieror
Dystoried, its Finished, half the carpeting is MISSING and was placed down with house flooring Carpet that was half ass cut to fit inside the car, the passenger side and the trunk area
what factory carpet that is left is Stained and matted and pealing away from its placement.
I may just gut it and not put in new carpeting to save the wait, but I feel that may just be unsightly...well have to think harder on it in the future

The dash Mostly works, the gas needle hasn't moved Much since I got it, been telling me I have a quarter tank since the day I got her,
The back light on the gadgecluster and panel is alil weak and the radio, though it works, isn't working well enough, needs to be upgraded.
The A/C does turn on, but no cold air, I'm sure it just needs to be refilled

The seats covers are just Ugly and tacky looking, but the Seats themselves are in great shaped aside the drivers side, the power adjustment is not reponding and is Stuck in the lowest, farthest back the seat can go...UnFUCKINGcomfortable
it would explain the pillows that where on and behind the seat...

and the BIGGEST THING is the fucking X-BAWZ Sized Shifter and lack of an Armrest which I found falling apart in the trunk...

Driveline
He told me she had some transmission issues that was repaired, but I don't know if my Sentra and Forenza spoiled me with the way they shift,
But the Z will Not shift intill it hits the designated speed.
She jumps HARD when I put her into Reverse, it literally sounds like the engine and the transmission are making nice-nice in a Not so Nice way
and Squats rather lower when put into drive, You See that she does from inside the car

and most frightening of all, is that when she shifts down to first, something Clunks, and its coming from behind the passenger, I'm assuming it has something to do with the drivewheels or the differential...

While braking, She wabbles, warped rotor or rotors is sure to be blamed...

Preformence
Heavy comes to mind, she kinda has a hard time holding 50mph without my foot on the pedal
I haven't taken her far due to the lack of insurance on her, so I've avoided the highways
She does pick up rather well, but just feels SO fucking heavy
But that may have something to do with the lack of powersteering fluid...or the Lack their-of

Comfort
Drivers comfort is Horrifyingly attrochous. With the Seat folded as far back as it go, I have NO support to see over the dash, being tall helps, but its exausting.
It's More work then it needs to be driving, not to mention I'm the kind of person who drive one handed,  my right arm is normally on the center-arm rest and my hand on the shifter
but the shifter is so broad and unnecessarily Large that is irks me to no end, and the lack of padding on the center armrest drive the support pins into my elbow.

The Handling is rather well for the heavy feel, she takes bumps rather easy for a car that moderately close to the ground.
being a Sports Car, I was expected to be trashed around by normal ware-and-tear roads and was suprised that it didn't add as much discomfort to the all ready uncomfortable ride

I know I'm lacking Pictures and real explanation and examples for these issues, but I swear once I deside to Not be Lazy, I will take pictures and even Video of these issues

nice, i remember you asking about this thing. hope the rust doesn't cause too much of a problem, the PS shouldn't be that bad to fix. cool price.

Update on the battery

Charge on the battery was killed, they replaced it for free as a defect, but they warned me to Not put the battery back in the car if it was only going to drain it again, they will not replace it a 2nd time

Suggested it may be the alternator, but taking it out is WAY to much work,
I spent more time and effored Hunting the tools I needed down then having the hand strangth to turn a bunch of rusty screws
