Has anyone else ever snapped a spec V axle. I have a 2005 spec boosted running around 11psi at the track. I was there last wednesday and I went to burnout to warm up the drag radials, I usually let go of the clutch around 4K rpms but for some reason I accidentally let go at redline (6200) and I heard a deafening SNAP! I thought to myself o shit.... there goes the flywheel coming off the crank or maybe a blown first gear... After pushing my car out of the water box I thought it was a broken CV joint because the boot was all jacked up. I get home and the next day remove to axle to find that it was not the CV joint but actually the AXLE. It was the passenger side axle right behind the CV joint inside the boot, (if that makes since). I never heard of anyone else snapping axles and was just wondering???
I bought a new axle from autozone for 95$ and car runs perfect. I dont understand how I broke an axle with drag radials, Arnt some of you guys running full slicks on 400+WHP? My car probally has around 330-345WHP at 11psi. GLAD IT WASNT MY TRANNY!

I just bought a OEM replacement from autozone. Like I said It was my fault and my car has like 12K miles of turbo abuse on it. I have been to the track at least 20 times each time running 6+ times down the track so I expected something to break sooner or later. Autozone has a lifetime replacement policy also. As long as you have the receipt and the broken axle in hand they will give you a brand new one at no cost, thanks for the idea though.

Inspected snapped his axle about a month ago. This was one thing i never managed to break. Went through a motor, two trannys, few flywheels, but no axles.

Nope not at all. It actually did not spin the tire at all it just instantly broke the axle. My car maybe moved 2 inches forward and thats all.

WERD, but wy go through that trouble? just put in some raxles, and bam, your set, no need to replace em ever, raxles are as rare to break as there is 800hp specs

yeah, i've never heard anyone snapping an axle like that... it must've been weak.
at least the axle went and not the transmission (input shaft/gears/etc)

Actually all you need is your phone # because unless you make a copy of the receipt the ink on the receipt will disapear in a couple months or quicker if you leave it in your car from the heat. Just a lil FYI

They are not in stock but its an overnight delivery item. I ordered on thursday around 4pm and It arrived at their store next day friday at 1pm. They are duralast OEM replacement axles. From the look they are exactly the same and the fitment was PERFECT. idk if they use cheaper materials or what but from nissan a new half shaft would have been 557$!!!! autozone was 95$ with a core charge of 35$. I think I will take the cheaper...
Right after I went and installed the new axle I went out and did a couple hill/canyon runs and a 150+mph run on the freeway and my old axle driver side was leaking a little bit of axle grease but the new duralast axle (passenger side) showed no signs of wear at all. It passed my test.
Thanks chris for that info ill keep that in mind.

Yea most stores have to order from HUB which is over night. I just recently did mine to and they are holding up well...

it's because you dumped the clutch at redline, that's a pretty big shock to the drivetrain.
yea I know it was my fault, like I said I usually warm them up and let go the clutch at 4K but my mind didnt compute with my foot right or something....

wow i though these axles more often i guess i was wrong.... thats one thing that keeps me from going to the track as much.... i dont feel like breaking an axle lol...... and about that raxle site, those axles are stock just as good as autozone atleast from what i was able to read.

I have over 200 track runs on my car and the only reason it broke was my fault. If you are running with street tires I can pretty much guarantee 100% that it is impossible to break a spec v axle.

Yup.
that track must have been preped pretty decent too.
I remember look at our axles and thinking they where pretty fucking beefy. I never worried about them from then on.

what if you go from street tires to full racing slicks, what would need to be done to the axles.

Offline

Nothing, plenty of people use slicks... just don't drop the clutch at a high rpm.

Wow...All these years, this is the first time i hearid an axle snapped on a B15. Ok so 11psi + slicks + redline + dumping clutch + 1st gear = snap hmmm

Online

Aaron

yea these axles should be fine for full slicks just dont launch (by dumping the clutch) at redline. rather hold 5K and slip the clutch until the car moves then dump the clutch and throttle.

Thats the first Ive ever heard of anyone snaping an axle. After seeing them in person from underneath the car, they are pretty damn beefy for a 175hp engine. I guess they arent as invincible as I once thought.

Or... people could stop freaking out and realize he launched from REDLINE (by mistake)... don't be a retard and launch at redline! (No offense to 05red
of course). Shit breaks when you race, and now I'm seeing people going into other threads telling people not to run slicks because the car will break. Way to jump to conclusion that everyone will break on slicks off of one guy...

BTW waterbox FTW I never went in the water before, I did last night and you dont even have to dump the clutch all you have to do is barly slip the clutch. So yea no more broken axles for me.
All you kids out there dont take this way out of porportion IT WAS MY FAULT!!! These axles are WAY more stout than people think.
