Lightweight Pulleys / And are they worth it

Im tryin to find a smart way to spend like 300 - 400 bucks on something that will improve my 1/4 mile times . Im seeing pulleys for 1 - 200 $ n was curious if they are worth the money ?

I read they dont produce whp but allow faster revs , which assume lets me hit my peak hp quicker . But how much quicker is what im wondering and is the cost of pulleys justified by this gain ?? Im lookin at doing an underdrive and my crank pulley .
Is either one more beneficial than the other to do ???

Thnx , Erik

Re: Lightweight Pulleys / And are they worth it

It reduces rotating mass attached to the crank. Underdriven pullies also reduce parasitic losses to the accessories. They don't produce a more powerful combustion like other mods, hence why it's said that they don't really create horsepower. However, they do allow more HP to reach the wheels.

Re: Lightweight Pulleys / And are they worth it

so is is the performance increase  Justifiable for the cost of doing these mods .  ???  I think i can get both pulleys for around 150 - 200 $

Re: Lightweight Pulleys / And are they worth it

do it if you wanna squeeze out some more power. not the best bang for your buck, but if you are pretty modded might as well do it.

Re: Lightweight Pulleys / And are they worth it

1lb rotational = 10lbs of fead weight removed.....so by adding both pulleys you could remove 4.7 lbs if i remember right; so the power increase is the same as removing 47 lbs out of your car.

so the question is:  Do you think 200$ is worth the difference of lets say 8gallons of gas in performance?

They do smooth out the powerband tho

Re: Lightweight Pulleys / And are they worth it

wrp is the lightest and underdriven..... only company that offers PS pulley too.   otherwise you can spend more money on a stock dia. heavier more expensive UR

Compared to a nitrous kit, yeah, definately. haha. Not a "waste" if your intentions are to make big hp gains on the dyno, but double rotating mass is a big deal for acceleration. If you are N/A, it could help some, but F/I and the gains would be minimal.

Your ratio is off, and doesn't account for gear ratio. It would improve the weight reduction effect in lower gears and reduce it in higher gears. That is why you used to find dynos on ebay showing 4hp gains in 2nd gear. In 4th gear, you see much less, typically 1-2hp.

It helps you rev faster in neutral, which is fun, and combined with a lightweight flywheel (and especially with a lightened/knifeedged crank) you could rev rediculously fast. idle to 7k in 1 second would be great. haha

smooth out the powerband? I want to see info on that.

-JNY

I never saw any gains whatsoever.  Only noticeable difference was reduced drag from the A/C.  And you know how many times I've been to the dyno, LOL.

Which pulley did you dyno?

Reduced drag from the A/C = more milage, although probably very little.

We R Paperweights Crank and PS pulleys, no gains.

if you get them cheap, maybe, however they dont make much gain.  I think 100$ is pretty cheap so thats why i bought the crank pulley, still looking for someone with a cheap PS pulley

Not really.....a flywheel does....a pulley is basically shiny.
