how to change break pads on specv non brembo

I have a 02 specv and I need to change the break pads. I'm good with tools but have never changed my pads so far, and I would like to know how to do it.

if it's worth doing it's worth over doing

Re: how to change break pads on specv non brembo

if your just changing the pads there are 2 10mm or 12mm bolts on the caliper you need to take off. The pads just slide out. Clean everything with brake cleaner. Your going to need to compress the piston, to do this you need some variation of a 'c' clamp. Loosen the bleeder valve with the 'o' side of a 10mm open-ended wrench and compress the piston all the way. Reinstall the caliper and tighten the bolts (i dont know the tq specs). Your also going to need to bleed the brakes after all this. Have someone sit in the car and pump the brakes three times then open the bleeder and repeat that three times. Hope this helps.

Soon to come....Built engine, 5-spd swap, direct-port N2O setup....

You only bleed brakes when a brake line has come off.  Bleeding your brakes due to a PAD change, is retarded.

Thats like changing your oil when you put new tires on.  Stupid and unnecessary.  Now if he has a soft/spongy pedal, then he should  bleed them.

For a brake pad change, you do NOT need to bleed your lines.  Nothing has happened to allow air to get in the lines.
