Re: is there any hope for us autos

i dont think there should be to much of an issue, although are you going to stay auto after the vq swap or have it swapped over to manual?

to answer ur title, no, there is no hope for you autos. u could do all the swaps u want but the fact that ur car is a auto sucks and ull be missing out on half the fun of driving.

Re: is there any hope for us autos

i would like it to stay auto but i kno manual would be alot better so not too sure swapping a auto over to a manual is alot of wrk jus have to find the right person to do it for a reasonable price

this was unnecessary.

also, there is a guy who did a auto to manual swap for not bad of a price. ask JinTae about it when he gets on.

also, level ten makes some badass reinforced automatic transmissions. remember that the automatic supras are faster at the drag then manuals. so no all autos suck. also mercedes uses auto and dont suck.

yea, automatics are perfectly fine and work great for when u do normal driving and such. i actually wish my car was automatic many times just cause it gets annoying having to drive a manul. but if ur going to start and build up ur car and make it fast it wont feel right for it to me a automatic. yea i know theres cars out there that are automatics and are faster than most manuals, but there not as fun to drive. this is ony my opinion and im not trying to say ur car sucks cause its a automatic.

Re: is there any hope for us autos

i think it really just depends on the driver more or less. whatever the driver is partial to makes driving still fun in the end really.

of course there are the advantages of being manual for track for instance, but if you plan on just dragging the car, auto should be perfectly fine.

Yeah, drag, automatics, track, then manuals..probably.. I have an automatic and its great that I don't have to shift it, d'uh. But I don't see why not, you should be able to do the swap...ask Travis I bet

Manual is not for everyone.  There are some naturals at it, but mostly, it takes quite a bit of driving to become comfortable/skilled driving manual.  Just because you like driving manual, doesn't mean you're good at it either.  I've driven with a few people and just have to bite my tongue.

Personally, I have the spec for my DD, and the Mazda6 for cruising.  Sometimes it's nice to have one of each.

yea, it kinda sounds like i have split personalities or something lol. i should have changed my wording. what i was trying to say in the first thread was that to me, if ur going to start building ur car up and getting serious w/ it, a automatic wont cut it cause u just dont have enough control of the car and thats were automatic starts to really suck. now if this is ur daily driver and u dont really care too much about building ur car up and such, a automatic works great.  i shouldnt have to to extreams and said there is no hope for ur car and it sucks that ur car is a auto. i meant to say that now that u are planning to build ur car up it kinda sucks that u are stuck w/ ur automatic. i kinda think u feel the same way too.  let me tell u, driving a manual in chicago traffic fucking sucks.

Re: is there any hope for us autos

I'm one of the handful that has a manual Spec and auto SE-R... SE-R is awesome because my ankles and knees get too sore driving a manual.  SE-R is actually getting a turbo here very shortly.  I enjoy taking the auto the track even.  Sometimes it's nice not to have the "stress" of a manual.

Re: is there any hope for us autos

The automatics are very understated. Im about to buy a shift kit for the auto that 'should' enable it to hold at minimum 6psi of boost. Once I do that I will also be looking into a tranny cooler and a few other things. I am sick of people that make comments like brandon and am out to show the rest of the B15 community that the auto is perfectly capible to hold its own.

Gurov is also working on a system setup with Megasquirt to allow the car to dump the boost at shifts to allow for seemless, shifts with little damage to the tranny. Trust me, in 12months the automatic transmission SER's wont be a laughing stock any longer. It may even be within 6 months.

Re: is there any hope for us autos

To say that AT's suck is an ignorant statement. It is a proven fact that AT's are in some of the quickest cars in the world. I for instance, had only lost to one Spec V in a drag race when I was modded, many of which had pretty much the same mods. AT's are more consistent, and can, in most cases handle more power than their Manual counterparts if built correctly.

As far as drag racing goes, I would much rather drive an AT than a manual, especially a car with decent power, and a built tranny...

its just my opinion man. im not saying its right or wrong. yea i know some of the fastest drag cars are automatics and they work better for that. all im saying is that i like to have more control of my car than a automatic can give me.

Re: is there any hope for us autos

Oh please, dont think that I am mad. I know the potential ATs posses, and I could care less guys who have Specs try and make fun of my clutchless wonder. I have only met one Spec that could hang with me anyway, and he was spraying...I understand what you meant, and I'm not offended...it's not like I think that the only thing is AT's....

like I said for drag racing AT>MT, but that's where it ends. Manuals are much better road racing cars than AT's...and ARE more fun to drive most of the time...and that IS a fact
