B15 HEADER DONE! COMPLETE WITH TIPS! IN FIRST POST

Okay the header is complete.  Everything is working.  Full story.
Got header installed, stock cats melted threads on AFR (top) oxygen sensors.  PLEASE NOTE THOSE METAL RINGS AROUND THOSE SENSORS ARE PART OF IT.  IF YOU DO NOT REMOVE AND PRY THEM ALONG WITH THE SENSOR IT WILL STRIP!  Okay, so I tried Bosch universals (DO NOT WORK).  So i had to wait almost a week to get my car back in order because of the 02 sensors.  THEN here is the BIG part which I thank gurov for the mental stimulation.  I put the sensors in the top two runners as you see in the pic below.  Car ran like balls, did not want to idle, did not want to "cruise" only worked WOT.  i was about to cry.  Then i realized that the stock sensors where located, 1+4 and 2+3.  *ding*  i was reading basically one cylinder.  Lame. So i put the sensors one cylinder 1 and 2 and BAM! Smooth as a baby's ass.  So thats it.  Thnak you all for your support.  I will have new pics later on.  Im exhausted from the stress.  i just wann drive it now.  I actually have two cold sores from this whole damn problem.

Re: B15 HEADER DONE! COMPLETE WITH TIPS! IN FIRST POST

well this is part of testing.

nothing ever just bolts on or goes on right unless you have a true plan before hand.

that is why this turbo kit and header and everything is taking so long.

Re: B15 HEADER DONE! COMPLETE WITH TIPS! IN FIRST POST

Not knokcing ya Rako, but the header is done, the chinese manufacturing is backed up, not just us but all across the board, its that time of year.  But even if i went and spent 4-500 dollars on a new header that was made for my car, i would still have two broken 02 sensors.  so i spent $100 on a header for an 06 spec, 160 on 02 sensors which you cannot equate, and then $100 on labor and other parts, so i mean the math is there.  Im still cheaper here.  Plus to all the poepl that gutted their stock manifolds, there is still turbulent atmospheric elements which inhibit flow and the fact that they cost $7500 menas i may be able to sell my good one to someone that needs it for a G sometime.  at any rate yeah shit happens, im jsut pissed cuz i left my work celly, both my celly chargers, and my contact solution in the damn car.  its a half hour away.  But definately RAKO props to you, i can see how this shit hits your pocket.  Im happy the 02 sensors werent crazy expensive like ive seen some before hand.  But i did buy a new Smith and Wesson M4 today, strapped with a red dot and front grip WOOOOOT.

The problem was that the heat from the catalystic converter between the head and the cats, was so great it caused the threads to melt thus making it impossible to remove them without damage.  The one was so brittle from the damage the removal caused the ceramic sensor to crack and fall away. The new install will have WAY LESS heat.   A cat can flash at 2300 f a rough run can go anywhere between 1000-1800 degrees, thus a free night light brought to you by the proud engineers at nissan, where more value equals a bigger pain in the ass.

Re: B15 HEADER DONE! COMPLETE WITH TIPS! IN FIRST POST

just let er go... cant tune w/o a wideband to even see where ur at on the a/f scale.  so it'll help to safc2 + wideband the car to gain like 6-10whp on it (thats what the b15 gained, prolly more for us) but $500 + dyno could be pricey.

Re: B15 HEADER DONE! COMPLETE WITH TIPS! IN FIRST POST

I was going to do that.  in this situation, are you tending to add fuel or remove it or what?  I would think i would like to turbo it also down the road so the afc would come in handy.

I plan on still getting the megan header and j pipe.  thbis just cures my paranoia about the car breaking down but the irony is it isnt running after the install.  Woot.  I told the assholes at the exhaust shop to make a new pipe.  But after they said they were done they gave me the "We saved you money" and cut my stock piping.  sometimes i wish i would have waited.  sometimes i wish i would have never bought.  sometimes i wish there was no forum. (as in notification problem with header cats.)  But whatever.

Re: B15 HEADER DONE! COMPLETE WITH TIPS! IN FIRST POST

id buy it if u plan on boosting down the road anyways.... ud be SUBTRACTING fuel as nissan likes to make it piggishly rich, in the 10-11afr stock, which n/a u can run to 13.7, prolly gain 10-15whp on that tune and make the header like a 25whp mod.  200whp should be easy w/ I/H/E/TUNE on this car, VERY EASY considering i was at 186 w/ crank pulley  + 2.5" exhaust.

Re: B15 HEADER DONE! COMPLETE WITH TIPS! IN FIRST POST

Well i tried to overnight my sensors monday at 9 am and welp i guess overnight means "maybe a week" to my situation.  Blargh so pissed off.  I did fin d some info though that may or may not have something to do with probs, they used completely different AFR sensors mid year at the break poiint of 09/08 and on.  my car was made with the older ones so who knows.  The funny ass thing was, i called courtesy nissan like someone told me to, and number one they didnt have my VIN in their update yet, but anywho,  the guy said there are two of the sensors i need sittin in the back with a special order for another customer, so looks like someone else is in the same situation.

Oh man that's not too bad, get some sound clips up NOW!!

Also how much are they looking for one of these bad boys?

Do you have a CEL?

What size runners and collector did it use?

Give us the skinny.

Re: B15 HEADER DONE! COMPLETE WITH TIPS! IN FIRST POST

Come on man get them clips and more pics, we need to see it, and when can we get one?

I for one, if I don't trade in my car will be interested in spending a fair amount of money on my car.

THis is a DIY project man.  I dont have any way of getting this done for you.  All you gotta do is but a B15 4-1 header, go to an exhaust shop.  Tell em to weld four bungs and install the bish.  That's it.

Are you saying that the only modification that had to be done was o2 bungs and nothing else?

Re: B15 HEADER DONE! COMPLETE WITH TIPS! IN FIRST POST

If there was a way to tune this, it would have a much greater effect.  I alos think there are more bugs to work out.  The power band is very linear.  I dont know if its faster cuz I lost alot of tourque with my whole exhaust setup.  ive got the header, megan 2.5 mid pipe and axle back.  To do this all you need is bungs and a shop to weld the header to your piping or make a new custom j pipe.  This problems that i had and maybe still have, is the stock manifold, mated cylinder 1+4 and 2+3 and measured two seperate groupings.  I put the one sensor in cylinder '1' and one sensor in cylinder '2'.  I dont know if not having the other two cylinders in play with the flow is going to matter.  Not so much as flow but 02 readings.    Um definately needs some timing pulled.  I got some cels in like 50 miles of driving but i couldnt tell what they were cuz the scanners i tried to use dont work with the car.  it ran fine but idle is jumpy but thats to be expected.  the problem is the header i used almost groups all four cylinders to one area.  Liek i had said before i had the 02 on cylinder 1 and 4 and i couldnt drive the car for the life of me.  so im afraid of putting them towards the flange that they may read all four and jsut be a nightmare.  For thsi to work properly they are going to have to be 4-2-1 to be sure.

Re: B15 HEADER DONE! COMPLETE WITH TIPS! IN FIRST POST

Well i traded the car in.  My final conclusion.  You will need a 4-2-1 header with cylinders matched exactly with factory.  Then the two top sensors will be need to be put into the 4-2 collectors and the emmisions are up to you.  Good night all!
