cooked pistons from 05 AltimaSER

Here are some of the images from the original motor's internals. this motor was driven on a base map from Tampa(AKA Z-fever) to Jacksonville, NC. started smoking about 100 miles from my house, and I didn't take it over 4000 RPMs.

Mike said if it wasn't for the oil squirters on the back side, it would have definatly seized.

I was thinking back to when I picked up the car.
I arrived in the morning, and Doug the owner of Z-fever started it up. said it was running great, but still needed a little street tuning. I left for 4 hours, and when I get back doug is like, "hey man, was this motor good when you bought it? it has knock"... real interesting. at the time I was kind of dumb about cars and kind of just let it go. but I am willing to bet they fucked it up on the street tune. for one, the car had 2 year old fuel, which they tuned it on.
two, the tuner "Martin", tells me its cool, he has seen these rev to 7400rpms safely. WTF?
Once I got another motor in it and retune, I find out they didn't even configure the Wide Band, and that the map was barely touched.

I dropped the motor off to my buddy Mike(AKA Axle). don24 and I dubbed him this because while we were putting in this last motor working on the harness, he asked if he could do the axles. no shit, he had the axles in, brackets scewed down and wheels on in 5 minutes. hes one of those Mechanics whom god blessed with supernatural powers, and the ability to do anything perfect, and within a timeframe that no mere mortal could comprehend.

Mike says it was running lean, however the motor now has the same symptoms... and it is not running lean. I do have 2 WB sensors(gauge and ECU). any imput would help.. I have got to get this figured out before I get another motor.

Re: cooked pistons from 05 AltimaSER

Z-Fever sucks... I wouldn't let Martin work on my bicycle..

That's definitely a detonation issue.. which can either be fuel, or timing... If you say that it's rich on the wideband, then, I would say timing too far advanced is your issue.

Re: cooked pistons from 05 AltimaSER

hey man looks great, i told u it was a detonation issue and travis confirmed it, if u r running rich timing is too advanced, turn the timing down some on the next one and you'll run fine and shouldnt have any issues.    if u want we can swap out a motor at my place.    let me know something.

I don't know about TampaRacing, but, I know that Z-Fever sucks.  I have several customers in the Tampa area, and I've spent a lot of time out there.  So, I get the scoop about the local shops.  It's not that they're incapable of doing decent work.. it's just that the owner is a scammer, and tries to cheap out, while charging premium prices.

Re: cooked pistons from 05 AltimaSER

Thanks for the info... I kind of got that impression when I went down there. Doug is a whiner.

On another note, I truley want to solve the issue. I really like the cable TB and MAP, and being able to tune. there are a lot of different options with the setup (ITB's). I know so many people running standalones, and dont have any issues. it all really boils down to the tuner. There are a lot of VQ 240s without any issues(running VQswap's setup). I figure it is just something simple, that I have yet to discover. I hope with school and experience I can pinpoint it. If I can't, I will bring it to you Travis, cause I am getting really frustrated.

I hear ya.. but, no standalone powered vehicle will ever be as solid as a stock/tune factoru ECU/harness.  Standalone's are quirky.. and unless you really know what you're doing, things can go wrong in a hurry.  I know that people say they run standalones, and never have any problems, but, that's a load of BS. smiley-wink  While they may be able to fix the problem right away, and it may be insignifigant.. that doesn't mean that EVERYONE can do this.  You have to know what you're doing.  Not knocking you, or your experience.. just saying..
