is this even a possibility in our cars? I found the motor/trans and can't really afford a damn skyline.... so...
anyone know?

For the money you'd probably spend... you could probably easily go to Canada and drive back home with a Skyline...

yes you can, will take 20k+ for a shop. or around there

RB26DETT is the engine by the way, not 36... probably just a typo

+1
But it would be the slightly more common RB26DETT vs. the RB36 which I've never even heard of.

Also... not to mention... these engines aren't sold in any US vehicle... therefore, Napa or Pep Boys or the local Nissan dealership is going to have NOTHING if something breaks. So even with just the engine, it won't be cheap... and things will break, they always do. So many people forget about that when dreaming of a Skyline and what not

what would you prefer?
sentra body with skyline drivetrain.
skyline body with skyline drivetrain.
IMHO, i'd go for the real deal.

Sell your Sentra... buy a 95-98 240sx, and drop it off.. I'll toss a RB26DETT in, and call it a day.

#1 reason why I don't have something with an rb26 in it right now... ridiculous repair bills.
If I build a 240sx it'll probably have a VQ, which is why I'll probably build a 350Z up instead... the chassis can harness the power better. Honestly if you're gonna' swap in something, do a VQ. If you are not emotionally tied to your Spec V (as I recently discovered I am) and you want a bigger displacement Nissan, get a 350Z - They're relatively cheap now.
If you ARE gonna' swap, then talk to that guy above me. ^ ^ ^ He is your only chance if you want it to eva' run lol.

Not legal. You won't be able to register it in the States. People have been trying/talking about this for years, and many cars have been confiscated. Watch Nico's Skyline section, and you'll know what I mean.
You guys are able to import R33 GTR's legally aren't you?
OP, not worth it. If you're going to go any route of modifying the drive train of a Sentra, go with a transverse AWD SR20 setup, or a longitudinal VQ35 setup. Both would cost and arm and leg, but they'd be better alternatives that chopping the whole car apart to get an RB in.

If you live in the right state in the US, kit car register it and you'd be fine... there's several uninhibited redneck states around the rockies that allow nearly anything on the roads
I know people with illegal skylines are that are registered just fine... as 240s.

That's all well and good until the Fed's come knocking on your door with a repo truck to take away $15-60,000 worth of Skyline you aren't able to recover.

Cover your ass... don't go around flaunting your skyline. hell, if i owned one, it probably wouldn't leave the garage because i wouldn't want the parade of fanboys following me around town.

Only legal skylines left are r33 as they have been crash-tested and approved for import. < MOTOREX can suck my fat one for that... it is all their fault. Upside to the recent legislation is that you can get r32 and r34 for quite a bit less than a couple years ago... as long as they are track use only you're ok.

The good thing about that, is that you're alloted a certain amount of miles to drive to and from shows every year (IIRC its 1500).

i saw one that i could affford, it was an r34, it was that an evo ix, x or build the spec, i relized that i could afford one, but i wanted the skyline as a daily driver, which is not possible, it would easily get stolen, or if aything broke, id be fucked
trying to scramble to get parts for it, which as a dd its not very smart
the cheaper alternative was to just build the spec

GT?
The GTR is a little out of the EVO, or Spec build budget. Unless of course it's been wrecked. Even then they sell for $30,000ish range.

Honestly though, my stupidity aside cuz im totally new to this game however I do want to build the ever loving shit outta this car what is a good motor that could be a good replacement for the problematic fuQR25DE?
Offline

John

QR25 is not really that unreliable man. It has just been a journey over the last few years - keep in mind it is still relatively new, and the SPEC V is the only performance vehicle that uses it. Put in a blockguard, and a mildly boosted Treadstone turbo kit, and it actually kicks a bit of ass.

Offline

Mike B

What is a blockguard? and the treadstone kit is in the works once college stops raping all my time to make money to buy car toys.
Offline

John

Then spend some time studying lol - check out the boosted section. BTW a swap will cost 2x more than a turbo setup. Piece a kit together for yourself - it is usually much cheaper in the end anyway, and you get to custom pick you stuff.

Our blocks are similar in design to Honda's, as they've got a "water jacket" for coolant to flow around the cylinder walls. It's called an open deck block. Here's a picture for reference:
Heres a "closed deck" block, which has water channels, or coolant passages beside the cylinder walls, but provides much more stability:
What the block guard does, is sit inside at the top of that water jacket to prevent the cylinders from flexing under load (such as high boost, high RPM). Like so:

thank you. is the treadstone kit the best way to go in your opinion? or is there something else that costs the same/more that would possibly be better?

If you haven't got any experience building/boosting an engine, I'd suggest going with the Treadstone kit (or any other pre-assembled kit). That way you've got most everything ready to go, and easy to install - no fabrication necessary.
On the other hand, if you want to spend some money, and do some reading, you can save a few dollars and customize your setup for your intentions by piecing together your own kit.
