could you just remove the butterflies or would there be problems

they say that you'll lose a couple HP down low from not having them but the motor deffently sounds stronger without them.. also is said to gain a couple mid range without them. my buddy has been running without his for almost a year now.. no issues

The idea behind runner lengths is wave rebound theory, that when the intake valves open, a pressure wave is sent backwards up the runner to the plenum where it bounces back and ultimately combines with the incoming air charge causing a sort of supercharge effect as it increases in incoming pressure. This happens when the piston is at it's critical point, midway down in the stroke, and the effect is harmonic in nature, so you typically have one 1st harmonic rpm where the frequency of the valves opening and shutting, and the resulting pressure wave/rebound happens at the point where it will return to the cylinder at this exact moment. Longer runners cater towards this harmonic happening lower in the rpm band, while shorter runners cause the harmonic to happen higher in the rpm range. It is extremely repeatable if you are ever in the position where you can see custom manifolds tested on a dyno. The idea behind your butterflies is that you have the best of both worlds. If you take them away, then you will lose that low rpm gain as you will no longer have the air charge solely traveling down the longer runners. People here remove them because of the potential for the screws holding the butterflies on being sucked into the engine, but I don't really see much point in doing it otherwise.

why do the F/I guys remove them?

ok so the butterflies open up at high rpm's right? so can thir be a way to acctually make the butterflies open up a bit sooner to get that extra air in the motor when its accually needed and have them colesed at low rpm's at once????????????????

F/I guys take the screws out to lose some of the lowend torque since they make so much of it . it takes a lil stress away from the rods
and you can control the opening of the valves by using a neo. a few guys on here have done. it showd gains opening them at 4800 .

For about $50 you can make your secondaries open whenever you want:

I'll be doing this within the next week once I buy a decent soldering iron.
