vq throttle body on qr

i was wondering since i have a full vq35 motor torn apart in my garage, does anyone know if the vq throttle body would work if i made a mount to bolt it to the qr intake mani? i know the throttle body plug is the same but thats it.

Re: vq throttle body on qr

wont bolt on. to make it work you need to the throttle plate to close more. this can be acomplished by sevral ways, easiset is to grind some down behind the throttle rest.

Re: vq throttle body on qr

yes it will bolt right up if you make a throttle body plate adaptor, someone tried it awhile ago and it worked fine for the first 20mins but then it went into safe mode. why? idk. i guess the ECU didnt like the VQ TPS.  But if u increase the TB side then u need to port out the IM side

Re: vq throttle body on qr

If I could find a VQ TB cheap I'd buy one to play with.

Re: vq throttle body on qr

bump.. ^^I'm working on it, hopefully i get my vq tb the 20th of this month.  All i need is the adaptor to make it fit the QR manifold.

I wonder how and y other ppl failed at making this work.  It's pretty straight foward with a lil wiring harness research.

Re: vq throttle body on qr

its not the wiring thats hard as getting the ecu to adjust to wtf is going on.  a qr TB open x* will flow alot less air then a vq TB at x*.  so itll probably make it idle weird

Re: vq throttle body on qr

edit: the idea.

having X amount of air coming in is excuse, thats like switching a stock intake to a CAI, or from a stock manifold to a real good Flowing/ported IM. Yes more air is gonna come in and should not effect crazy idle unless there's a leak which should not happen.

This is what I'm thinking about too. Maybe an adaptor and then a way to shut that sucker. hrms. Megasquirt could battle through it, but your idle fuel consumption would suck ass.

I have had a VQ35 throttle body on my car while back... I had a adapter plate, which I sold...

It worked fine, except the idle was gimpy as hell... It would rev by itself from 1200-1800rpm, than back to 1200rpm than it would rev to 1800rpm, and so on...

I couldn't get it to idle right. I tried idle relearn and all those other tricks, nothing worked...

It wouldn't go to safe mode... I had it on my car for few hours...

I believe the gap of the throttle in VQ35 tb is too big, making it idle shitty...

Re: vq throttle body on qr

it matched up with an safc II to correct for the amonut of air coming in under X amount of throttle should help the idle out. putting it on without any way of tuning....probably wouldnt do any good at all
