So I was driving last night foot to the floor everything is going nice and yeah my gas lights on slightly below the E(and i am on my way to the gas station); I hit 85 and the car cuts off it slows to 80 and then speeds up and cuts off again. This is the first I have ever experienced this. I was scared for a moment then decided to test it after I got gas. So I pull out of the station and run my car up to 110 no problem. What is the reason for the car cutting of like that?

Yeah, I slightly have to laugh about this like Jeff, but I can understand your concern. The fuel pump of course pumps gas from the tank into the lines that feed the injectors. When the car starts to shutter like what you had, it usually means you're just running out of gas. Its getting sporadic gas from the tank and pretty much running it dry. Like when you're drinking from a straw and you get to the bottom? You start slurping for the rest of it? That is what your car was doing. Nothing to worry about. Just get gas before you go below E!

the good news is that running it that low clears out the tank so when u got gas, its a fresh refill

The fresher the better! 93 Octane FTMFW! Unless you only have 91-92 Octane Avail.

ok, did the problem continue when u got gas? if it did it could me 2 things either the ECU ( i had to change mines because of the same prob, it would turn off automatically out of no where?)..... the other thing it can be is your crank sensor(same prob happen to me when the sensor went bad)... ofcourse, then it again it might have been that u were on empty... if its the crank sensor ill get u one for cheap (carmaxlol)... and if your check engine light is on come through and we'll plug the scanner and figuere it out...
but, you were probably out of gas my nigga!

just think of when your drinking a soda through a straw and get down to the very last bit, makes that slurping sound cuz it gets air bubbles in there, dont you think when your fuel pump is sucking that last little bit of soda (gas) its bound to do the same thing?
hehe, sorry man i understand you jus didnt know. dont worry ive asked plenty of dumb questions in my time
good luck and when that light turns on, get gas

the fuel pump is meant to pump fuel, not air. so i try and avoid going below the 1/4 mark if at all possible.
