What does a throttle body bypass do?
Anyone?

it prevents 180 degree + coolant from flowing threw your throttle body heating the intake temp. This mod lowers intake temps and helps delay heat soak of the intake manifold along with the intake piping. Do it and you will see a 20 degree decrease in temps where the coolant flows through. Take the necessary steps if you live in a colder climate (i.e. undoing the tbb when it becomes winter, I also believe there is a gasket you can get that will help in the winter also) Supposedly you can crack your tb if you have done this mod and its winter. I personally have never heard of this (partly because I live in Hawaii)

Sounds good but will have to wait 4 spring.
For anyone who did it n/a is there a noticeable power difference?

i'm n/a and i did it to mine over the summer. i only did it because my car went into limp mode on a really hot day. it may have worked, may not. either way, no noticeable power gain.

How can you tell you went into limp mode? Check engine light or something?

Mine's done on my SE-R and it's not undone in the winter and it's been fine for two winters... NJ gets down to 15-20 degrees a few times a winter... maybe that's not cold enough though
I felt no difference in power... maybe it's 1whp, haha. My butt needs calibration.

I guess im just wondering why do it just to run a lil cooler and thats it?

It was one of the old school Spec V mods, kinda like the knock sensor relocation... back in the day when the aftermarket was rare and people got creative to get every bit of power they could... the gains are probably minimal, but there's still enough that people still do it maybe? I dunno.

Cool, thanks. Sooooo a knock sensor relocation? Never heard of it

You take the knock sensor and relocate it away from the block so the ECU doesn't retard timing and lessen power because supposedly the knock sensors are really sensitive... I dunno, I don't have it done, not really down with disabling knock sensors...

yeah the car basically dies and the check engine light comes on. it still runs but when you push the gas pedal, the rpm's dont go over 2000. thats even with the pedal on the floor. nissan says that my throttle body lost power temporarily which caused the limp mode. i noticed that it only did it when the outside temp was at least in the mid 90's. so i figured if i cooled down the tb as much as i could, it wouldnt happen anymore. so good so far since.

No difference. I've had it for a while and it should work in theory but I have dynoed several times and no improvement. Whatever.

To me, it makes sents to to a TBB if you're running a CAI. Since the TB is reheating your intake air downstream of the intake, the $200+ you dropped on your CAI is partially negated.
Is there a good "How-To" for the TBB procedure? Even though winter is upon us, I'd like to get this done ASAP. I bristle at the idea of my cold air getting reheated

Nothing... Simple as that...
It won't even yield 1whp...lol
