So, it's no secret.. many people are looking for "more options" in terms of getting a VQ into thier vehicle. I will tell you, from the get-go, that you will NOT save a ton of money by doing this swap yourself.. However, I've come to realize that many people just don't have 5-6K to drop on a swap at one time. As you all know, I have been VERY hesitant to give out loose parts for this swap, due to several shops trying to copy/reverse engineer our parts in the past. Yes, this actually happened.. At least two of my customers were approached by 2 different shops, which I will keep anonymous, but we ALL know very well.. They were offered money for "time" with thier vehicle(s). This was several years ago, however, and I think that we're to the point now, that the cat is pretty much out of the bag, in terms of our mount design. Several shops/people have duplicated our idea(s), and I guess that is to be expected. The same thing happened years ago with our QR25DE turbo system. Now, there are several kits on the market that closely mimic our original design.
Anyway.. enough of the politics..
I am toying with the idea of offering "Starter Packages" to you guys, at discounted rates.. Obviously, you will be required to perform all of the labor, and you will still be required to figure certain things out. You MUST have access to a Consult II from Nissan, in order to reprogram the Nissan Anti Theft System (NATS), once the swap is complete. Your engine will NOT start if you do not perform this step
With that being said.. I'd like to hear your ideas..
I was thinking something along the lines of a package with mount adapters, inserts, bolts/nuts/washers.. and another adding the bell housing, axle bracket/VQ engine brackets.. then, maybe another with a complete wiring harness/ECU, and eventually, all the way up to a "drop in" VQ swap, with minimal modification required.
Again, you will be required to "think" in order to do this swap.. This is not a simple, "B-Series" Honda swap.. I am simply trying to come up with ideas to help keep us going, and get more swaps out on the road with our name on them.

Offline

I stock 3-4 of the bell housings at a time.. usually no problem for me to get them anymore.

Adam

what would be pricng options on this?

Offline

Not sure, yet.. I have to crunch the numbers, and see exactly what you guys want as far as packages..
I have also updated my VQ swap pricing sheet, stickied at the top of this forum.. I have lowered my prices, and consolidated the parts upgrades into "stages", to better suit you guys on a budget.

this is definately very cool of you, especially for us canadian folk. its nice you have something other than boosting as an option.

Also
custom headers+ypipe would be helpful. great to here you are selling your mounts. hopefully people on here who would buy your mounts wouldn't sell you out to another shops greed.
Travis could you send me a quote on a low mileage VQ with shipping? thanks

Great Idea Travis!!! I believe you would do very well with something like that. I mean it would be a income for you and buget VQ swaps for are community. Not to mention pushing the FI-R Banner. Speaking of do you have a FI-R banner or logo in a PDF file?

Man wtf, this is disapointing to me why couldnt you have done this 8 months ago I wasted so much money in gas, renting a trailer, borrowing a freinds SUV to tow the car and plane tickets
You all mofo's are lucky...

oh stop. regardless of the swap kit, no one will make their car as nice as travis makes them. especially in two weeks. but its on a budge so i guess thats what matters.

Travis, I'd like to discuss the Cruise Control system with you, if you wouldn't mind. I may have a relatively easy work-around for the 02-03 if you're interested.

$1500.... nice.. I guess I lucked out I own a truck, and trailer... so all I paid for was Gas and food. Well till I got to Travis' House... Not to mention, where we stand away from those so/called lucky mofo's we got to spend time with a great host "Travis" Customer Service at it's best... so don't be so pissy bro...lol j/k

That’s all! You lucky dog! lol
Next time I do this, it will be with a track car not a DD.
I gave one car to my daughter [she's a college senior] away at school.
Aimee, my son and I get to share Aimee’s car around his school schedule and Aimee’s work arrangement.
And me, I’m back from my third trip around the golf course paths today [outside exercise in beautiful weather and it really stirs the hua up , so I love it] As he puts his bicycle away in the empty garage. lol

Chris, you had a few other things wrong, that would have cost you time/money to sort out, other than the rest of the swap. You made the right choice..

like said earlier, i think it would be awesome if you could also provide headers/y-pipe that would bolt up to the stock cat-back or midpipe section.
and if i ever did this, i would for sure rep an fi-r banner or decal on the car. you should send those out with the kits too

Offline

Matt

hell, ill rep fi-r now.. but you wont get phone calls from sentra guys. sory.

I'd like to see a 4.3 vq for sale

Offline

Strolling on US. 190

Honestly I love the idea, I Am acutally seated for a March Start date at UTI which I DO plan to take there Nissan Elevtive, I more then likely Will work on All Nissan equitment including the Consult II
Now not owning a Sentra really puts me in a bad spot to give an oppinion but I say Sweet idea
I'm not really sure what to say about the Stages of the swap?
I like it but then I'm not getting a clear image on how it would work to have sections staged off in the project
But in concept, sounds like a nice deal
asking how much More money would one need to compleat a Swap with a lower end stage vs. a full 'drop-in'?

This is great. I think you have the packages mapped out perfectly. By the time you get pricing worked out and get the parts together for the first package, Im sure there will be a good group of people waiting which will allow you some time to get the second and third parts of the package going. One of the problems that I foresee with this going on is when people fuck something up they come beating your door down cuz it wasn't done right, so magically it is your fault. Or endless calls, email, PMs with people that "dont know how to do it". I think this is great for people that have the knowledge to do the swap, I just hope that some people who are not qualified to do it, realize that and don't do it.

+1 on this being a great idea for us in canada.
How much more than the qr does the vq weigh again?

50 pounds?

IIRC that's the difference between a turbo QR b15 and a VQ b15

Offline

Matt

im pretty sure i heard travis say the vq is heavier then a turboed qr by 50 pounds.. so im guessing 100 pounds then.
edit.. thats what you just said lol.. sorry. i thought that said qr twice.

yes i definitly agree! i was wanting to do a VQ swap, but i live really far away... this would be an awesome thing.
just an idea... theres no way you can copyright or patent the custom parts you make?? keep it under your name?

Stupid California and their smog laws. I would have probably done a VQ swap instead of putting a stock internals QR back in when my last motor got ruined.

I am making it very clear, when I sell this stuff, that it is 100% a DIY "kit". There will be no warranty, except for on the fabricated/billet parts. If you fuck up and fry the harness/ECU, or botch the transmission work.. it's not my problem. This is the reason that I charge what I do for a complete swap, installed and ready to roll. You have to know what you're doing, or you can destroy stuff in a hurry.

and then for the mechanically declined you could open up a telephone line that charges like 1.99 a minute for you to release the information to them lol....jack the porno line for fi-r it could work...not sure how the billing and the cost of the line but its a thought. gotta love late night info mercials giving ideas lol

I would like to see a kit with front hubs drilled for 5 bolt wheel studs along with
The rear bushing spacer to fit the maxima rear hub and the two mm spacer for the rotor mount
As talked about here
http://myspecv.com/f/t168073-turbo-se-n … gnuts.html
So I can run 17 x 9’s up front and 17x8's in the rear of my vq swap too
With maybe 265/40/17’s for tires [altered fenders required]
Or machined spacers for the $4 subframe fix
Custom lower control arms
A plug and play wot box
A crate 07 short block assembly w/ 07 crank rods but forged turbo pistons
Available with custom ported head and turbo cams
And on and on

Could we buy these packages like one at a time, then once we'd have enough money for the rest of the swap, just give the car to do you do it?

why not just throw all your money in savings?
