Gas Gauge and Filling Up

Pretty much ever since i have had my car, i noticed that when i fill up my tank (fill it up till the pump turns it off on its own) the gauge only goes to 3/4 of a tank

Like my gas light will be on and i will fill it up until it stops and it only puts in like 10 gallons...ive just been confused i guess

Any one no what the deal is...

Re: Gas Gauge and Filling Up

Nothing really wrong with how much is going in...your gauge might just be a little off. Gas light on = ten gallons to fill up, isn't really unusual.

BTW, do you fill up with the key on?

Re: Gas Gauge and Filling Up

I've always heard that there's 2-3 gallons in "reserve" after the gas light comes on.  Mine would be on and only take 10 gallons, too.

Re: Gas Gauge and Filling Up

i had that. i took it to the dealership, under warranty, and the replaced fuel sending unit, i believe. it means that something is broken on your car.

Re: Gas Gauge and Filling Up

Sorry to bump an old thread but mine does the same thing except a hell of alot worse. It used to only fill to 3/4 tank, but here recently it only goes to half a tank. Then it goes down to E for a while and it just jumps back to where ever when it feels like it. Sometimes it freaks me out because ill look at my gas and be like shit i need gas now. Then it only fill up about 6 gallons.
