So my buddy and i tried to put my JWT cams in and ended up blowing all my exhaust valves. $2000 and two+ weeks later i get my baby out of the shop and as i'm driving it home it throws SES and goes into limp mode. Seems worse than most people describe it..if i go past about 1200 rpm it sputters and almost dies.
The shop where i'm having the work done pulled the codes and it's saying either oil pressure or cam position sensor.. everything is set up correctly because while it is running it runs incredibly. Just seems to throw the code after i shut it off and turn it back on again, and if i clear the code it runs great until i shut it off again.
Anybody have anything similar to this happen to them? We're going to try new sensors on both sides tomorrow but that's $ i really don't have to spend if i can avoid it.
any help would be much appreciated.
thanks

sounds like the cams are out of time.
follow fsm procedure.

Sounds like it is nothing to do with the Cam install now. My car did the same thing, couldn't rev past like 2000rpm's, and it turned out to be some recall at nissan.

so its pure chance it happened right after someone who obviously cant install cams, installs cams?
dont think so, check the timing.

take it all apart and install again, double checking EVERY step.

booger, i appreciate the feedback...yeah i fucked it up the first time..lesson learned, but i took it to a really good shop for the fix. they checked the timing and followed the instructions to the letter. double checked everything. it's still doing the weird idle thing. Like i said, for the first bit, while it runs it runs great. It's just after it decides to throw a code that everything goes haywire.

do not try to fix it yourself...take it back to the shop and tell them they didnt fix your car and you would appreciate it if they did there job correctly

maybe a quick fix?.....try the idle air relearn, I dont have cams, but with the cam sprocket i did it

thats interesting because i am throwing a code right now, but its for the o2 sensor. when i clear the code, the car runs fine, no ses light. but when i shut the car off, and turn it back on the ses light comes right back on. it still runs fine tho, and my problem is not the same as yours, but thats wierd that if u clear a code and run the car the first time its fine and then shut off and start again and things go haywire. just my .02

its not really wierd that it comes right back on, if you know how the light comes on. both your problems are type A failures which turn on the SES as soon as the emissions test performed is failed, so by it turning on right away just means that the enable criteria for that particular fault is met when ou turn your key on given the specific parameters such as outside temp, coolant temp etc.
i agree with booger his problem sounds more like a valve timing issue
just take it back to the place that "fixed" the cams for you, they can pull the code and follow procedures to get it running right. (and this time it probably wont cost you much if anything cuz they eff'd up)

yeah, if your getting a cam pos code, sounds like they installed it a couple teeth off,

if its a couple teeth off, then you would be able to hear the difference in the cars idle....maybe sound like a muscle car with a lopey idle...just an example

I don't really know what your problem is because I'm not there to see it, but I do know that there are issues with the crank and cam sensors on the qr. There is a TSB out for them. You can get them in a pack together from nissan. I don't know what your oil pressure sensor issue is, but the cam sensor issue is apparently pretty common.

Please take it back to the original shop because if u do anything to it this may void warranty if u have to reinstall the cams!!
