solid welded mounts

thinking about having my mounts welded solid this weekend by a buddy of mine... i know a couple of people have just the rear welded solid but i want to do both... im not a puss so vibrations dont matter just tired of the engine slapping around inbetween shifts. would probably end up taking the rubber bushings out and doing a 4 dollar wheelhop aid as well.... thoughts?

Re: solid welded mounts

solid will make shit rough as hell, lots of vibs, could cause problems in the long run with all the extra vibs, imo. Maybe just do the rear..leave the front and do the 4$wha. That will stop the motor from flopping like a fish outa water..but the front will help calm vibs a bit.

Re: solid welded mounts

raising the idle wont do anything... im talking constant vibrations.  I mean by all means if you want go for it if you want im not trying to stop ya if ya want to, but im just trying to prepare you becuz i was thinking the same thing a month ago and i made it like a week before i cut them back out lol.  so maybe have him just tack weld them in so you can get a feel for it and then take it back out and to him to have it done all the way.

Re: solid welded mounts

if the motor isnt going to get hurt i honestly dont care about the vibs... to be on the safe side ill just have the rear welded and use the mmi in the front... wouldnt the tack welds break after awhle i mean its only a tack weld right?

Re: solid welded mounts

mine held up fine but i only had it a week.  I was just saying do that for a week to make sure you like it so its semi-easily reversable.  But if you dont care about vibs just do them both... it wont hurt anything motor doesnt care if it moves or not.

Re: solid welded mounts

hey thanks someone complimented them lol.   Go to Ace hardware with the crossmember and find one that fits in there.  Then find one will line up with the mmi hole and still reach all the sides of the bigger washer.  then weld them together lol.  then get some black paint, thats the key to them looking awesome.

Re: solid welded mounts

no it was 2 normal washers stacked.  the offset comes from the second washer is placed off center lol.  its just 2 normal washers with centered holes.  very simple and cheap lol i think it was like $7 for parts

im sure he does he welds for a living mostly on hyrdraulics... like the big trash compactors that u see at home depots and targets he sets all that stuff up... the only thing im worried about is he says hes going to probably have to use his stick welder on it

Re: solid welded mounts

eh those washers are pretty big and if you weld the little tab from the mmi center onto the center of the small washer it gets to be really solid.  I didnt break any of my tack welds in a week with me driving pretty hard.
