not sure, my engine is doing a crunching noise out of the 1st cyclinder in the left , my friend says it might be my timing is off so idk u tell me plz

Well, cam timing shouldn't be the cause, unless you've had the timing cover off to swap camshafts. It could be just normal valvetrain noise. Maybe take a quick clip of the sound it's making, that would make it easier to diagnose.

Sounds like you have your concept of timing skewed, you have both ignition timing (mostly software controlled), and you have actual engine timing (which is mechanical). Your idea of locking timing, is something that you do to lock ignition timing in so that you can verify that the trigger wheels/ECU software code are sync'd together, and when the ECU says its running X degrees of ignition timing, mechanically the engine is running X degrees of ignition timing. To check the mechanical timing, simply check the timing marks on the cam gears and crank, you'll likely need to set the engine to TDC for cylinder #1.
