Cross Member help needed

the front cross member bolts are both "tight" but if i put a ratchet up to them, they will spin for days in any direction. I just took off my rear cross member bolts, both are stripped, one isnt even the right bolt thats supposed to go there!(apparently the original owner was a bigger idiot than i previously thought), and out of all 4 spots...there was only 1 destroyed rubber bushing(in the back)....this should be fun to fix....any suggestions?

Re: Cross Member help needed

how to get the front bolts out, and I know I could do the $4 wheel hop mod, but I uno if i really want even more vibrations(I alreayd have MMI's) is there any cheap easy waay of something softer I could put in there? haha

Was reading about some other peoples troubles with it...and if they front cross member holes are stripped...there is no way im gonna go and do that helicoil thing, seems waay to complicated. Im thinking about just taking my radiator out, and drilling a hole and putting a nut and bolt in there....haha

Re: Cross Member help needed

did you try putting pressure on the crossmember so that maybe you could get the bolts to grap and come out? if not maybe a reverse drill bit would work but its prolly going to be too small, idk it could be worth a shot

Re: Cross Member help needed

yea, try and EZ out set, then do a tap and drill set one size bigger. From there, see whatever rubber will work..not sure

Re: Cross Member help needed

wheel hop aid ---> UHMW

as far as the crossmember bolts, i would recommend installing a time-sert. similar to a heli-coil, except 100x better. time-serts are threaded inserts, not just a dinky little coil. they can even be used for spark plug holes.

Re: Cross Member help needed

Just finished..if my digital camera would connect to my comp would show some pics...but came down to this....went to the junk yard today picked up 2 bolts from some old maxima to use in the front, went to home depot and got 2 m12 1.25 pitch bolts and 8 washers for the back(they were a little too long). Came home FINALLY got the front cross member bolts out(I went a flat head inbetween the rubber insert and the bolts washer, added some tension, and unscrewed the bolt). both of which were completely stripped out. SUPRISINGLY the threads in the chasis were semi damaged in one, and barely damaged in the other. Both front rubbers were in good condition so I decided to leave them. In the back...when i took the bolts off there was 1 completely destroyed rubber bushing, and the other one(which wasnt even the stock bolt that went there...had no rubber at all). So for the back seeing as I had no rubber bushings, I simply put 4 washers in with the new bolts, and proceeded to impact every bolt on. I dont plan on taking off the cross member again, if i do I will most likely have to tap them out a size bigger, oh wells. (I already have energy suspension MMI). Then I went ahead and took my torque wrench out and torqued all the bolts up. I am completely in shock that my destructive not giving a care worked today..but I'm happy. Oh yah and that perma-coil thing was like 40 bucks...fuck that
