neo or fi-c???

i am planning on going s/c soon and i have been hearing mixed things about tuning. i heard the neo is fine to tune with but then i went to my dyno shop and they told me that i need something to control timing as well as fuel/air...thus recommending the aem fi-c...but my car is my only one (daily) and i need something simple that i can tune with on the fly...i really dont want to lug a laptop around with me everywhere i go...and frankly the fi-c software is kind of intimidating for me to figure out in a day...and the shop wants 600bucks to tune!

so, what i would like is any advice on what i should use...neo or fi-c? and if neo seems sensible, will i still be able to get decent power out of it?

Re: neo or fi-c???

dont go back to that shop. A neo or safc2 is all you need and 600 bucks is really overpriced. i think i pay like 75 an hour and itll end up being like 90 bucks.

Re: neo or fi-c???

u dont neeed timing unless your going to boost, in which case, youd need to retard it, you can advance it but then you need to run +91 octane

also a  consult 2 can +/- 2 degrees of timing

if you justw ant to get tuned, get a neo, or safc

i have a neo pm me if your interested

Re: neo or fi-c???

I am goin to boost via s/c...so consensus is fic is good but neo is adequate? I want reliability and power..and simple on the fly tuning.  umm...should I just retard my timing via the dealership or something?

Re: neo or fi-c???

A neo will work perfectly fine with a sc kit. Tons of us are running a safc tune of some sort on our turbo/ sc specs. Wether it be a safc2 or a safc neo. Just get the neo and a wideband afr setup like the innovate stuff or the zeitronics zt2 stuff. Tune it yourself. Screw that place that wants 600 bucks.
how much boost are you planning on running? What are future goals? Those are real questions that need to be answered for us to help you decide further, but I say SAFC/Neo( same things) are just fine for boost up to 10psi safely. You can do more on a safc for sure though. I say get a SAFC2. Best safc out there and it can monitor knock, which the neo cannot.

Re: neo or fi-c???

Check the classifieds for a safc2. there is always a bunch here and there. You'll find one.
As far as bov valve. everyone I know of puts it on the cold side. And vent it to the atmosphere, just caus everyone else does so why not..SC, you kinda have to vent it to atmos.

Re: neo or fi-c???

if you can get the timing retarded 2* from stock then ya, go for it. It'll be safer but not really absolutely needed. But ya, it may make it safer. I did mine cause I could. Some dealers wont do it for you. I had a friend do mine.

Re: neo or fi-c???

ya I have read all about the fic and I have read ur thredz black04...it just seems too in depth for my daily driver. see my problem is I need to install everything including s/c and piping and such, in a day which isn't  a problem....but then i need a decent tune, which ill have to do myelf, so I can drive it....or at least something good enough to get me to a shop
