thermostat problems

Hey guys, I am new here and I am having an issue with my 02 spec.  I changed the thermostats the other day while changing the dimpled top radiator hose(while I was there). Now when the car warms up the fans kick on and stay on.  The top hose gets hot but the bottom hose stays cold so I don't think things are flowing properly.  The temp gauge stays at half way but the fan kicks on as i am just driving down the road at 60, which it never did before.  Anyone experience anything similar?  Thinking of just pulling the water control valve and callin it a day.  Ideas?

Thanks.

Re: thermostat problems

sounds like one of the thermostats is stuck closed, the bottom hose should be hot and have pressure on it so somehting isnt right.

Re: thermostat problems

I boiled both of them and they opened right up.  I was thinking I may have some air some where.  I know the car doesn't have a bleeder and I have driven the car to temperature and let it cool and rechecked the fluids but there are still plenty left.  I have also brought the car up to temp with the radiator cap off and there were not any bubbles. Once the car gets up to temp ( 5 - 10 minutes) the fans kick on and don't shut off but the temp gauge is fine and the heater blows hot air.  I have about an hour and a half drive each way tomorrow and I don't want to turn my engine into one lump of metal. All this from changing the thermostat's! Any help would be appreciated, thank you Super spec for the reply.

Re: thermostat problems

jack the front end of the car up as high as you can, put jackstands under it and then put some 2x4 on the jack and go higher or as high as the jackstands can go. start the car and hopefully thatll work the air pocket out. you have to get the radiator cap higher than the head.
