Re: msv magazine

it would need content... content that more than juts sentra owners would pay to read...

can't cost all that much, as long as i get like 1000 copies made or something to that effect. just getting them all sold would be the issue.

Re: msv magazine

could add some of the how-to's in it along with featured rides.. car of the quarters.. just start small 4 issues a year $28 for 4 issues.. plenty of stuff to tlak about.. do it as a sentra mag.. then you can hit the specs and 1.8s

but at the same time, that's what this site is for. we'd basically be making a magazine to make ourselves feel good that we/our cars are published in something.

Re: msv magazine

well heidi and alot of people on here are amazing at taking pro pics and with photoshop. people shouldnt pay for a subscription but possibly a one time fee or per issue. it could be every 3 months, 6 etc. people will send in pictures of there car for the poster section. articles about there car. there mods, basically kinda like msv. the people who help to create the issue that month etc get a bit of the pay or can put it into the magazine.

haha, a book is more doable than a magazine...

for a 40 page it's about $22... full color, published.

Re: msv magazine

so basically you want to make a magazine with a bunch of pictures of our cars?  and have some how-to's?  and other random shit to fill up pages?

sounds like a complete waste of time to me.  that's what we have this forum for.

Re: msv magazine

what spotlight are we talking about?  msv ppl are going to buy this, that's probably it.   we have a showoff section for a reason.  what i learned from msv?  holy shit i could fill a whole magazine of that.  heidi can't travel USA to take pictures of everyones cars, although that would be fun.

yeah still sounds like a waste of time.

p.s. sorry if i am being too straight forward and criticizing.

if you guys want an online article publishing, i could expand the site more into that, so you have ACTUAL articles, not just forum posts with some backtalk. but again, this would need dedicated people who watch over this and actually add content to it.

Re: msv magazine

besides. the whole "articles" thing is already in place, we can put any thread onto the front page, but then again, how many of you people actually READ the front page, ever ?

people are here for the forums and the information contained in it.

the online forum format is a whole lot easier than reading a magazine, i think. you can find things a lot faster. seems kind of backwards to take the step back to paper

Re: msv magazine

The thing with magazines is that they do have a lot of content. Import Tuner has it's powerpages, which that's cool and we could do that, but they do it on many cars. Next thing they do is they have the fact vs. fiction part where they test different products and say if what they advertise is good or not (ex. does a bottle of octane really improve your power and acceleration? Do certain coolant additives really help with temperature?).
A comparison test would be nice (spec v vs. civic si vs. mini cooper s vs. some other sport compact), but then you're getting into having to get a test track and equipment.

I would go with an online magazine. Why go with an online magazine? The reason why many people open one; the cover. It's catchy and gets people to want to open one. There are times where I'll look at a post on how well an item works, but see that it has 5 pages of replies to it. I don't want to go through all of that to read about how well a product worked. An online magazine will allow people to read the article without the arguments of whether it worked or not. It will allow people to read about major changes to the site that they might overlook in the forum.

If there was to be a magazine now here would be the top articles.
"Fall 2008 Car of the Quarter-cute02spec"
The car would be on the cover. There would also be a descent article about why the car was chosen: What’s special about it? Who is the owner? What are the plans for the car? What is already done to the car?  Why did she chose the RS lip kit? The current post basically is an overview. It simply says that she won and lists what it has. An article would need to explain what it has and what it is along with the pictures.
"385whp on stock internals”
This article would be another descent article. It would contain pictures of the car being dynoed, the dyno sheet, and other random pictures of the car. Again why is this car featured: What’s special about it? Who is the owner? Why is there no carpet on the inside? Again an article would explain. The thread is an overview simply stating that someone made that power.
“MySpecV Cleans Up at NOPI Atco!”
This could be a smaller article. It would contain pictures of the event, the winning cars, and the owners. The article could state: who won? In what category did they win? How was the event?
“Does It Work? Ebay Electric Supercharger.”
It would have a title on the cover and pictures of the product. The thread is a great small article already. The only problem is that there is no dynosheet. When the test on the IMS was done, it had a dynosheet. But the thread covered the install problems well. It also included driving impressions, price, pictures, and a little summary about the good and bad of it. Obsidian could’ve tried to return it and include what the seller had to say about the problems. He also could’ve included what the product was supposed to do according to the ad.
“Racing Solution's *NEW* Sentra RS Lip Kit!”
This would be a pretty simple. The thread already has pictures of the product which is good. The thread is good except at the bottom it says “For more information click the link to go directly to Racing Solution's website, where you can also find pricing information.” In a magazine article, you would include the extra information such as pricing and application.

For the magazine, you could also include ads for donations, the new lanyards, and even have small sections for the new features/rules/etc. at msv.
