what does removing resonater do?

would like a little more growl out of the car without altering performance.  Wondering what replacing the resonater with a straight pipe would do to the sound and performance wise?

Re: what does removing resonater do?

no resonator = a LOT of growl, not a little

just get an intake and/or exhaust
i really don't think you're prepared for the no res. sound

Re: what does removing resonater do?

i have a magnaflow muffler and no resonator. it is an awesome sound. but....the first lil 3-5 seconds my car sounds like rice shit when i rev it up. the gases arent heated up in time. didnt do it with the resonator. if u dont mind that take it off. def makes the car louder. raspy all depends on the muffler u get. i highly reccomend magnaflow. no flowmaster made that damn mistake. good luck any questions hit me back

Re: what does removing resonater do?

imo... cutting the resonator without wanting performance gains = rice.  it's also really raspy. it's there for a reason.

Re: what does removing resonater do?

I had no Res on my Max.  I had the exhaust setup very nicely.  You could hear it coming from 3 blocks away but, it sounded BEAST.

Re: what does removing resonater do?

^^ yeah well this is a 4 banger.  I went with my current setup minus a res for a while, and yes it is louder and pretty nice sounding until you step on the gas between 3500 and 5500 RPMs then it's growl egts drowned out by a raspy metallic ass pounding sound.  and that's with the borla muffler i have which sounds (to me) almost identical to the magnaflow some on here have.  like mentioned above, I'd actually go with getting a nice intake and/or axelback.  I like the stromung sound but that's not available for the B16 specs.

Re: what does removing resonater do?

Kind of a mix review crowd........but the input is great thanks.  Thinking better to change the muffler rather than eliminating the resonater......agreed???  I have an Injen CAI on it now and that did add to the sport sound of the car but would like a little more, not ricey however.  I do like how the car is isn't overly loud now at commuter driving speeds.  I guess what I am looking for is just a more "attitude" from the car when driving it hard and just a LITTLE more "attitude" at idle all without changing performance.  Unless the performance is for the better.  DO NOT want Rice sound!!!!!

Good job that will help alot.

Getting a new muffler will accmplish this. I have the Apexi WS II and it's known for being on the quite side of sound and when I step on it the car just growls and sounds like it's going to tear into a civic si.

PS i have a custom axel back setup and i gained some mid range torque so i was happy. If you have any questions let me know I will be happy to share what i have learned

Performance is always for the better!  Rice sound is exactly what you'll get with no resonator

Re: what does removing resonater do?

its going to make ur exhaust sound like ass...  more like bees in your ass.    and the gains will be slim to none...  not worth it IMO.

Re: what does removing resonater do?

yep you're right if you keep the piping size around 2.5" or less you should get some gains and a decent sound if you go with a decent exhaust company.
