Ok, my girlfriend just got a bone stock WRX 2.0 turbo. If anyone of you have rode in a stock WRX you know you can't hear the BOV for shit! I've heard about people just "crushing" the BOV to hold higher boost pressure and I've see youtube videos and there alot louder.. my question is... Does anyone know what it takes to "crush" a BOV .... also, if I just take the resurculating hose off and plug it, don't you think that would make it louder? Thanks

you cant just plug the recirculation hose.. thats registered air that you would be releasing into the atmosphere.. car would run like shit.. you would have to convert to a blow through set up. aka.. blow off valve before sensor. crushing the bov is putting it into a vice and litterally crushing it.

what part of the BOV do you crush??... I'm really confused about how that works??

Im confused. If you dont have a BOV, you get compressor surge. the air goes backwards in the air intake system and out of your air filter and thats not good. Thats what a recirculation is for. so the air comes in and when the throttle closes, the vacuum from the engine side of the TB pulls open the BOV and the air goes out and depending on your setup it will either blow off to the atmosphere or it recirculates back into your system. either way, you need to blow off or you will fuck up the turbo.

My buddy has one, and you can't hear sh*t due to the recirculator. I asked about a BOV and he laughed because sub 300hp WRX's lose power with them.
P.S. I could REALLY hear it after he got an intake for it. Maybe go that route if you really want it louder...

when you :crush: the bov you are essentually just crushing the top.. best way is to take a penny put in the middle of the top of the bov put it in a vice longway (top and bottom) and clamp it down until the penny is flush with the rest of the bov. what you are doing is creating more tension on the spring so that it's stiffer so it can hold mroe boost. if you are not running tons of boost then you wont have a leaky BOV there for this mod will do nothing for you. im not sure what you are trying to do with this.. if you want more sound then you must convert to blow thru set up so you can vent to the atmosphere.

oh, i get it with the crushing. The Turbo XS RFL BOV comes with washers to add on top of the spring so there is more tension
