I recently got an Injen CAI installed and while I won't be running the car this winter I was wondering what could be done to prevent water from infiltrating the CAI? I was said that water getting into the cold air intake was a problem and there's a whole lot of it here during the winter, especially when the snow is melting.
Thanks in advance.

Only idiots get hydro-locked.
This subject has been addressed a million times here. If you're paranoid, you can go to ebay and find the sleeve that covers the filter. It's supposed to prevent water from entering into the filter. Honestly, I don't know how that's possible. If it's porous enough to not affect airflow, it should also be porous enough to take in water...
If anything, it's a good for psychosamticism. Placebo effect ftw. Maybe. Maybe I'm just a big skeptic.

Dont go through big puddles and you'll be fine. A little mist from the filter getting moist wont affect it(well it shouldnt). Shit the turbo guys spray alot more alky and water into their motors than your cai will suck up at once if your not submerging it into deep puddles.

I can see myself getting hydro-locked in the Spring when all the snow is melting and that, in certain places, there's 2 ft. of water. But if you say there's no problem then, I suppose, there's no problem.

Than take it off for those months. if your going to go through that much water than TAKE IT OFF! Nothing you can do to a CAI to make it safe to go through 2 ft of water.

That's what I was thinking but I'm uncertain about doing it myself.

Do explain, then. I don't know how - I'm not mechanic savvy in any way.

Yeah it took me about 15 minutes to take my injen cai off and put the airbox back on when I sold it. I ran my cai without the left fog light in a few horrible ass storms and i had no issues from mist and spray and stuff. Just avoid puddles and you will be ok.

So it's okay to drive under heavy rain and whatnot, so long as I don't go through deep puddles?

Offline

Yeah, the motor has to suck up wayy more water to do damage then a little mist and rain can get in there. As long as you dont go driving through puddles your ok...which is pretty much common sense anyway.

So true!
To the original poster... I dunno if they put the CAI filter way lower on the 07+ compared to a B15, but I doubt it... I drove through crazy slush, rain, and snow with my Nismo CAI without any problems, including even 2 or more feet of slush for several hundred miles! Never had a hiccup.

heidi the intake filter for the injen cai lines up almost directly level with the driver side fog light. it's pretty low but the dust guard or whatever it's called covers it up pretty well.

Oh that's like the same on B15s then as well. I know our area is completely enclosed with fender liner plastics things, I assume the same for you guys?
So in other words, it'll take some talent and stupidity to completely submerge that filter.
