high flow cat / exhaust question

I understand if u want to pass emissions with the vrs exhaust, u need to purchase a high flow cat. If you can remove the stock one when installing the new exhaust, that leads me to believe that the stock cat is welded onto the pipe, but not onto the downpipe? How is it connected then? Also, if u buy a high flow cat, and weld it onto the new exhaust, how would it connect to the stock downpipe?

Re: high flow cat / exhaust question

The stock cat is welded into the stock exhaust system right after the flange where the exhaust bolts to the midpipe. If you wanted to put a high flow cat in the vrs system it would require cutting a section out.

I'm sorry I'm a total n00b and don't know shit about exhausts. Does the vrs replace the midpipe?

No, the vrs is after the midpipe and back. I don't have any decent under my car pics or i would post them.

Re: high flow cat / exhaust question

So if the cat is after the flange on the midpipe, and the vrs doesnt replace the midpipe, how does the vrs system eliminate the cat? (sorry i seem to be anal on this subject, im just trying to learn everything about it)

Re: high flow cat / exhaust question

my question is what if you buy a hi flow thats 2.5 in/outlet, depdending on what size exhaust you have, do we know how big an aftermarket midpipe is going to be

Re: high flow cat / exhaust question

Dude your making this way more complicated than it has to be. When your having a high flow cat put in explain to them you want it to connect to the stock manifold. Then by the time a manifold come out for your car BAM your running full exhaust.

Re: high flow cat / exhaust question

isnt an aftermarket mani and header going to be biger than stock, thats what im saying, you kind of need to wait and see what sizes come out for aftermarket parts

Re: high flow cat / exhaust question

It All Depends On What State U Live In. But Here In Texas U Dont That Other Cat Cause It Doesnt Read Emissions So I Wouldnt Waste My Money On A High Flow Cat Unlees U Wanna Dampen Some Sound Levels.

Re: high flow cat / exhaust question

since its obd 2 y would it matter since the car doesnt ever register those emission. i dont know if even being an obd 2 would they stick that probe in back of the muffler. and wouldnt ur intake make it fail as well...

1. me = n00b. I have no idea what obd 2 is.
2. me = n00b. But im pretty sure the intake has nothing to do with emissions.

Re: high flow cat / exhaust question

obd2 = on board diagnostics 2.    I do not know 1 thing about emissions regulations and all that chicken shit bull shit as i've never had to deal with it. But i think you dont have to get a sniffer test done for a few years cause u have a brand new car. And having no main cat will not trigger a check engine light so i think you should be ok.

Re: high flow cat / exhaust question

Yeah I think new cars can go 5 years before smog in CA. So i was gonna put the catback on now, and in 4 years either put a high flow cat, or just save money and switch the stock exhaust back on.

Re: high flow cat / exhaust question

damn. If I were to either get rid of cat or delete cat and add resonator would loose even more torque than I already have by going 2.5'' piping?
