Keep on the lookout for oil leaks...

We had an oil leak and took our 07 Spec in to Nissan to check out and found out that it had several.  There was one at the crank seal, at the oil pressure sending unit and a blow-by at the filter.  This being the case, they had to do some tests, according to Nissan Tech Assist, and still have our car (4 days).  They also said that some of the QR25s have cylinder problems, too, where the O-ring might not be seate properly, so, if you're having power problems you might want to have your cylinders looked at or checked.  They said that #3 for ours might be the problem.  The result is possibly, more likely, receiving a new engine.  So, thought I would inform everyone and those that might be experiencing this and are trying to figure it out without going to Nissan.  Get it there and you may possibly receive a new engine, if worse comes to worse.  Hopefully not, but you never know.

I haven't heard anything about that, I'd like to see a video or a dyno graph.

Re: Keep on the lookout for oil leaks...

Wheres the dyno or video of proof, I'd love to see that and the curve, especially paired with the CVT.

What did you do and how long did it take you.

Found out that the 07s started coming out with a "safe" mode if it detected loss of power.  It would run on minimums, but I would still take it in and have them take a look at it.  QUOTE FROM WIFE: "The car has a fail safe mode that Nissan started installing on the newer Sentras in 07. This detection allows the engine to run at minimum levels when it detects a failure in the car. This is why we were loosing power."  UNQUOTE

Yeah, QUOTE FROM WIFE: "Ok, Nissan is telling them at this point to replace all the parts that are leaking. When that is done and the Master Cylinder is changed then they will give the car back and have us drive it for 700 miles then bring it back so they can test it again if the parts are still bad, and the compression for oil is low, then te engine will have to be replaced. The third cylinder is fine....The Master Cylinders for the Automatics arrived today, they are being told that the Master Cylinders for the manuals are supposed to be in Friday. However, the crank seal is giving them a hard time because they can not find one for the car, I don't think they make them yet. The PVC valve has to be replaced, and another part that I don't remember."  UNQUOTE

Re: Keep on the lookout for oil leaks...

wow nissan is really making you run around to get your new car working properly. Very sad on nissans part.

i am happy to report that my leak looks like it was caused by oil filter. Took to dealer and they did oil change and its seems fine now. I guess the filter the last placed used was a cheap one or something. no clue.

Yeah, they still have our car and have fixed the crank seal, oil sending unit seal and change the air filter.  They are still waiting on the Master Brake Cylinder part to fix that.  Hopefully, it will come in this week (today  smiley-crossf ), so that we can get our car back.  We miss it so much.  smiley-cry  The Versa that we are driving is not a bad car.  It's just that it's an automatic and it's slow on the take off getting on the highway.  Anyway, have them double check your crank seal and all that to make sure that's not where the problem lies.  Also have them check your Master Brake Cylinder to make sure it's not needing a replacement, due to the recall.

Re: Keep on the lookout for oil leaks...

Ok so they are replacing my crank seal.

They said the seal is part of the metal plate on the side of the motor. So the whole plate gets changed out. looks like a pretty big job. Unfortunately they wont be able to get part until at least wednesday.

They already check my master cylinder and said i didnt need the recall. While its there i am having them fix the warped rotors.

My car looks like hell theres oil everywhere on passenger side even the side skirt and door has it and back of car has like oil dirt spray.

they gave me an old altima and I didnt realize how nice our seats are till i drove the altima home.
Oh yeah and the automatic shit has me all screwed up LOL!

I told you that the automatic is a bitch after you have a stick for a while, you don't want anything else and you feel retarded.  LOL  Anyway, good deal on the seal, that's why I posted this to get people's attention and look for things that are wrong.  They will probably tell you that you will have to drive it for 700 miles and bring it back for another test, then if everything is good, drive it for another 700 miles and bring it back.  If everything is fine then the job is done, but if either one of those tests fail, then you might be in a situation like us and have to get a new engine.  We are getting the car back today to start our first 700 mile test.  So, I'll keep ya posted.  PM'd you about the look of the car.  smiley-biggrin
