Noobie Question

Might sound a bit stupid but what's the best way of revving up an automatic car's engine at, say, a red light, without fucking up the transmission? I have a friend who just slams it into park and gives it some gas but I'm not too sure about that, might drop the tranny. What's the safest method? I guess it's just popping it into N while you're rolling.

Re: Noobie Question

Hold brake and gas and drop gas at green and hold it to the floor

Re: Noobie Question

put it in neutral and rev it up, and when you're ready to go, put it back in D. DO NOT PUT IT IN D WHILE THE MOTOR IS ANYWHERE ABOVE IDLE! that's called a neutral drop, and it'll fuck up the tranny big time.

Was that supposed to not make any sense?  What good is reving it in neutral if you can't launch from a raised rev.  You might as well just hit the gas when it's time.  You'll actually lose launch time waiting for the engine to return to idle speed.  I guess you were just being funny...

As was stated earlier, Brake Torquing is the best way to go.  Just hold the brake and press the gas until the engine is spinning at where you want to launch from.  From there, just let off the brake and continue on with the gas.  I used the technique a lot when I was racing an automatic years ago.  It's best not to hold on to the brakes for too long.  You should know how long it takes your engine to hit the rpm you want to launch at.  With that, you want to time it just right with the light.  Whenever you think it's about to turn green, raised the engine's speed and then go on green.  Again, you probably don't want to sit at a 3 minute light holding the brake and reving your engine at 2500 or more RPM...

Re: Noobie Question

This one guy I knew had a auto Suburu WRX and had a lot of engine mods and would put the car in a low gear, punch it, shift it to a higher gear, and when he got the car up to 40-50 mph he put it back in drive.  That car was a beast.  Dusted this corvette...baddd.
