first times are always rough
my first was in my se-r and i ran a mighty 16.5
i was the second slowest car at the track that day... my first time in my spec i blew up the stock clutch... so at least you weren't running 16s or breaking stuff!
plus, ugh... summer weather sucks! just blame it on that...everyone has been running crappy lately

nice, i need those mmi's and wheel hop aid bad. i felt a major difference in gears 1-3 with the IM port so i was hoping it would show on the track. but i only got one run in, cuz of rain. and i wasnt quite ready at the launch.

best advice i can offer: don't worry about reaction time or leaving fast at the light. if you have to sit there for 2 seconds so you can launch correctly, do so. it has no effect on your 1/4 time as long as you don't move and break the timing light. this really helps if you're a newbie, and not use to launching/being at the track

My first time I pulled a 15.1
my 60s were 2.3, the same as they are now with the same tires.

My first time at the track I ran a 14.3 and then a 24.2! It was a very rough day.

Hi snowghost440
The wheel hop aids mentioned really do work and in the hopes of making you feel a little better
May I offer the story of my Friday Night?
Here we are back at Atlanta Dragway
Its hot 93 and very humid
The track is very slippery and they are cleaning it with mops and water
Last week I was running on automatic just rev and go
No real effort to hook it up
Just experiment with the wheel hop aids
I have discovered they work quite well even with 4500 rpm launches
The fastest it went 15.69/88
I’m back this week to try and hook it up
My friends who watched last week told me
It looked like I was babying it
So this week we are really trying
Matter of fact, I get called out for a grudge race.
Great, nothing like a little competition to make you try
A turbo supra has challenged me
Now among this sandy beach of Chevy’s and sea of mustangs are three Honda’s one sentra and one Toyota
The Honda’s are all capable of 11’s to low 12’s
So that leaves me as the supra’s target
He spies the roll bar and makes his challenge known to the official
I jump at the chance
It will give me a shot at power hour
They give 50 bucks to the fastest et, mph and rx time that hour
I am obviously going for rx time
My buddy with the nitrous Chevelle has already done .o19 rx time tonight
It’s almost an hour before we run
I have not mentioned my car is stock
[To have the bar you have supposedly gone 11.9]
We talk for a while
He has never been to this track [oh boy]
He left the slicks home [I got a chance]
He has never run in the heat and he is tuning [a/f ratio’s] on his lap top [ I’m thinking, now he is dead meat]
He shows a time slip in the mid thirteen’s with a rx time of .05 [no newbie, here, maybe I’m dead meat]
Its time to stage and while I go around the water box he goes thru it [I’m thinking I got him]
The lights flicker down
I go on the spot between seeing the 2nd yellow go out and the last yellow comes on [too early] and I red light by .04 sec [quite a lot]
No rx money for me
But I psyched him into flooring it and as I pull up to him I see his rear tires explode in smoke
My shift to second produces unbelievable wheel spin [still no hop] I am fighting it the whole way to third
Now, Just ahead of the wildly spinning supra
He’s actually beginning to fish tail
I’m ½ a car ahead going into third
It slips badly on the shift but I don’t lose any ground
I figure his turbo will come in now and he will disappear
He begins to pull up, slowly catching me
I got one shot left
A power shift to fourth and let the heavy flywheel give me a little jerk
He pulls along side, I power shift fourth and it jumps a 1/3 of a car on him
But he is puling harder now I can see him along side me as we cross the finish
I got him by inches at the lights as he goes by me too late
On the way back to the timing stand I am excited to see what we turned. I’m thinking this has to be a personal record. I really hooked it
We get our slips and my stomach turns
15.9/86
2.37 60 ft time
Wait, its true
A personal record has been established.
The slowest I have ever gone while really trying.

man..first time I got 16.3 ..no mods, then 15.9 with CAI...and that's it, If I try in this humidity, I nomally get like a 16.1-16.5...ouch, so I don't even bother running till fall/winter. I do see how I still get faster times then even Scion Tc's, accords, etc, so it feels good to now you're on par or even better then other in your "class" even though you're pulling sucky times

dont worry, next time we all go, you'll get better times

Jen

you'll definitely get better with time...my car just went to the track last saturday and her best time was a15.3 but the track was 125 degrees..there are many factors that affect your time at the track..just keep tryin.
