welp i had the flowmaster 40 series and no resonator. the car sounded like crap on cold starts. sounded like it was scraping the road and i had to rev the engine up to get the gases hot enough for the sound to go away then it sounded great. i checked for leaks and nothing. it has been driving off the wall. dont know if its the flowmasters baffles that are doin it. so i went and bought a magnaflow muffler am i going to be ok. i have stock piping im worried about back pressure and if the sound will be ok . any input appreciated on either situation.

I was just reading your mods list why do you have an aftermarket tachometer? That seems a little redundant.

because its more precise and for future mods and what does that have to do with my post? why do you have a red stiched shift knob isnt it alittle redundant with the red seatbelts?

I can argue the tach thing, as sunpro has one of the least accurate tacks on the market.
But anyhow, A resonator is gonna be needed with ever 4 banger, its the only way short of a V6 and up engine swap to get rid of the extra unwanted noise.
I highly suggest you get a perforated core resonator, as Louvered core can adversely effect exhaust pulse velocity, and thus hinder your performance.

Put that Res BACK IN NOW!!! I have the Apexi WSII with my res and once everything is warmed up it sounds nice and deep. So I would say it's the res...

what does it sound like when its not warmed up? u get that shit sound on cold to with the ressy?

Nope it's just quite...then it gets louder as it warms up.

Not trying to attack you, just wondering why you would do something like that, there is no way it's more accurate as it taps the EXACT same sensors your OEM tach uses thus they would be the exact same. You don't need it for future mods either.
I have red stitched shift boot, because it COMPLIMENTS my interior not clashes with it.
Back on topic. Get a res! It's a dire necessity.

to be honest i've read multiple articles discussing everything from exhaust pulse, back pressure, pipe diameters and even "which muffler is the best?". most of those articles that mention a flowmaster say that it's a horrible design for desired sound and power output, especially on four-bangers. Something to do with the exhaust pulse directioning and baffling, it just lacks what most ppl are actually looking for their muffler to do. I can't say whether this is true or not, they definitely have a unique sound for V8 trucks. I think it just makes more noise rather than helps get the deep throaty sound for us four-banger guys. Honestly, i suggest trying to keep it and just get a magnaflow 22" resonator (i believe commonly called a magnapack). if that doesn't fix the sound issues, then put on the magnaflow muffler after. I had mine running a while without the cat or res and a borla muffler with 2.5" piping. It sounded kinda alright, but since i put on the above mentioned resonator sound and even performance have improved noticeably. Again, it's up to you just my suggestion.

well i had the magnaflow put on and its 1000 times better but it still makes the sound alittle but i can live with this sound. other kids ive talked to on this forum said they cut there resonator and added a maganflow and didnt get any sound. so my question is if the spec-v and se-r has the same exhaust could the difference in the engine produce this sound? and could it be a possinlity there is something wrong with the straight pipe that they welded in . its not leaking.

the factory tachometer taps into something completely different most likely the computer, the sunpro goes directly to the coil packs hence more accurate

Just buy a big ass muffler like an obx b10 series something like that. I bought an obx n1 replica abd it sounds good without a resonator.
