Potential Number Of Units Affected : 169202
Summary:
NISSAN IS RECALLING 169,202 MY 2007-2008 SENTRA PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED ROBERT BOSCH MASTER CYLINDER. DUE TO THE MACHINING IRREGULARITY BY THE SUPPLIER, THE INTERNAL SEAL GROOVE IN THE BODY OF SOME BRAKE MASTER CYLINDERS MAY ALLOW FOR A GAP IN THE GROOVE CONTACT AREA OF THE SEAL. THIS MAY RESULT IN BRAKE FLUID SLOWLY LEAKING FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY, CAUSING THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE.
Consequence:
IF THE WARNING LAMP IS IGNORED, ONE OF THE BRAKE CIRCUITS ON THE VEHICLE MAY NOT OPERATE AS DESIGNED INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE MASTER CYLINDER/BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY AND IF BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE IS DETECTED, THE MASTER CYLINDER WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON JULY 23, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

If anyone hasn't had their Master Brake Cylinder's checked yet, DO SO. Our's was one that was bad and their another Spec V at our local dealer that is bad and we just found out today that the parts are not released yet and Nissan doesn't know when they will be released. They haven't set a date or anything. So, our service guy just told us that, not only are we having to get a new engine because of our #3 cylinder being bad, that we are getting a new engine which hasn't been approved by Nissan yet, either. So, it will take them about 3 months to fix our car.
I miss my baby.
At least we get a free rental out of the deal.

I had the brake light come on and read the related threads and took my SE-R in asap.
MC is leaking on mine, but there on none in stock, at the dealership or otherwise. So, my service manager tops off the brake system and gives me the green light to drive the SE-R until the replacement MC comes in. That was 2 weeks ago.
I think Nissan is playing with fire on this one. One accident that involves a braking issue and they are screwed, especially with service managers returning cars to owners without replacement and telling them the car is safe to drive.
