Nissan is recalling 169,202 MY 2007-2008 Sentra passenger vehicles equipped with a Robert Bosch master cylinder. Due to the machining irregularity by the supplier, the internal seal groove in the body of some brake master cylinders may allow for a gap in the groove contact area of the seal. This may result in brake fluid slowly leaking from the master cylinder into the brake booster assembly, causing the brake warning light to illuminate. If the warning lamp is ignored, one of the brake circuits on the vehicle may not operate as designed increasing the risk of a crash.Make / Models : Model/Build Years:
NISSAN / SENTRA 2007-2008
Manufacturer : NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC. Mfr's Report Date : JUL 02, 2008
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 08V311000 N/A
NHTSA Action Number: N/A
Component: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 169202
Summary:
NISSAN IS RECALLING 169,202 MY 2007-2008 SENTRA PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED ROBERT BOSCH MASTER CYLINDER.
Consequence:
IF THE WARNING LAMP IS IGNORED, ONE OF THE BRAKE CIRCUITS ON THE VEHICLE MAY NOT OPERATE AS DESIGNED INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE MASTER CYLINDER/BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY AND IF BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE IS DETECTED, THE MASTER CYLINDER WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON JULY 23, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

This is what happened to my spec last week and it was replaced under warranty. But it's good they are doing a recall, I would say to go have it done ASAP!

This for all of the Canadian Owners of the B16's. I have just called both Nissan Canada and my dealership and they are not aware of this recall. I had at first called the number listed above and they seem to be perfectly in the loop with with. So this is a heads up for us Canucks. I'll be getting a call sometime later from my dealership on what to do.
It's a first! The Americans are on the ball with this while the us Canadians are stuck in La-La land lol!

Yeah I check the gov canada site for sentra and none is listed so far. I called my dealer and they wanted my VIN but they just said no recalls. I guess I'll check again later on. Post here if you get some info on it. I noticed my fluid level is a bit low but i am not sure if there's actually a problem since it came new at that level.

Really? Because I called yesterday and they seemed to know about it, mind you it's kind of hard to get anything done when call the US line when your Canadian....

Yeah you know what i should have waited before posting that. I always call twice because I had a feeling the first lady didn't know what she was talking about or didn't understand my question. So here is the scoop that I got.
The issue is VIN specific so you need to call and have them run your VIN#. I just ran mine and it's clean, I have a 2007 SpecV. So not all 2007-2008 Sentras are affected by this.
Offline

its all sentras there just bsing you and if you dont believe me just wait till your brake light comes on and u have no brake fluid!

Offline

For the Canadian B16's:
So since I'm a bit impatient at times, I called back today and as I quote "There are no recalls for your car nor the 2007-2008 Sentra's at this time. You will receive a notice if there are going to be recalls in the future."
I call BS! Well we'll wait and see what happened then.

I would have to assume there are more than 166,000 Sentras in North America though and that's the number affected.

so i dropped my car off at Nissan today for an oil change and told my service adviser about the recall and surely enough my cars vin is one of the affected so I am getting it taken care of. The service adviser didnt know about the recall but the parts department did and so did the manager. So there IS a recall in effect.
Nevermind.. my service manager called me back yesterday and told me that my car is NOT affected after all.

Just got a letter from Nissan saying my VIN is one of the affected. Great, another thing to add to the list..

Ever since I had my car checked for that recall my brakes squeal super loud the first time I use them after starting up my car... really annoying. I think it has something to do with the master cylinder since thats what they checked. I'm going to go get it looked at as soon as possible.
Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be besides that? Or if it might just be a coincidence...

The Recall has now arrived in Canada. Just so you guys know. My warning light came on and I called in and specifically talked about the recall. Tuesday appointment for the recall and today they filled the reservoir back up for the mean time.
Offline

About time. Do you think I should try again to have my VIN scanned? Last time they weren't really helpful, the dealership and Nissan Canada but i want my baby to have no niggles!

Offline

Call again. When I called in to report my warning light the guy started talking about how when your pads wore down etc it takes more fluid. Then i told him the car only has 10k on it and he said "wait a second" and came back saying oh yes they just posted the recall.
Offline

Frank

Good to know!
Are they suppose to send a letter?
Offline

take my word on this one im a nissan tech
ask for it by name nissan ntb08-067e
so far since last week i have inspected about 10 sentras and about 7 have needed new master cylinder(including my car)
fairly easy procedure the inspection takes me less than 10 minutes
and if it does need a replacement it will take about an hour
and all 2007-2008 are affected
and yes 2.0 and 2.5 use the same one
atx and mtx are different so you might have to wait on mtx since we dont really stock them
PM me for more info
Offline

well i dont know about you guys but here in so cal dealers its a mess..
i call my local dealer. told them about the recal which they didnt know. i told them to check and they finially found out my car its under the recall. BUT they told me that they can actually order the part. WTF? i was told that they can only put an order out for it and see if they get it...
if i dont get a word from them tomorrow monday i will try different dealers and see whats the deal..
Offline

Frank

Ok I just call my dealer about it and they received the info about this recall. They confirm to me, car involve by VIN will receive a letter within the next 2 week (here for Canadian owner)
Offline

But I hate waiting! I want to get her fixed right now... ugh, boo on Nissan Canada for being slow!

Offline

They are making you guys wait? I dropped my car off this morning and they should be fixing it now.
Offline

Yeah wehn I called the first time they said that I would get a letter and to bring it in then. Did you call your dealership or Nissan Canada?

Offline

Dealership. Although doesn't matter anyhow they are keeping my car for now because they can't get hold of a new master cylinder. You'd think if it's on recall nissan would have shipped a boat load to Canada to make sure this is taken care of as quickly as possible.
They have to provide me with a replacement rental though because of the extended warranty. Hope it's something decent.

Yeah I'll give them a call this afternoon and make them run a VIN check. Yeah Nissan Canada just isn't on the ball with this one. Not knowing about the recall, no parts readily available.
Good thing for extended warranties! Hope it is a good car, but chances are it's not...keep the Canucks informed!

They're fixing mine now, along with turning my rotors (see how long they last
)
The part comes in tommorow for me.

I got a honda fit as a replacement. It's almost exactly the same color as my car. It's not too bad I guess but it's a lower level car so it's more noisy and it feels less solid.
There's no ETA for the cylinder yet. They say to check later this week.

i gotta say.... nissan sucks big time... they put out a recall and they dont have parts take care of that recall...
ive talked to several so cal dealers and one say one thing and the other says another..
some say you CANT order that part. ( but how can you take care of the recall if you cant oreder the part?? )
some say they have no idea when they can get the aprt
ive called 1-800-nissan-1 and they dont know how to help me other than to call my local dealer
i called today and the service guy said to me " call me in about a month to see if we got the part, eventualy we would get the part. its not like your car its going to brake down or anything. they are just doing this recall because they think the part will fail"
i hanged up after that....
Offline

well its a voluntary recall
and the reason you(well me too) have to wait is because SeR and Spec V
master cylinders are different and we mostly stock AT cylinders not 6speed
and on that 1month wait crap thats BS
we just ordered a lot of 6speed master cylinders and we should get them in 2 weeks tops
but be warned if your BRAKE light turns on the go straight to the dealer
dont just add more fluid
the more fluid you add the more fluid that leaks into the booster

I brought my car in for this recall on tuesday and to have my clutch squeak looked at. I am going to have to wait a few more days until the dealer gets a new clutch master cylinder in stock to replace both at the same time. I hope they get it in soon, I am am going to be taking this car to North Carolina at the end of next week.

This is what I did and it worked beautifully. Go to Lowes and buy a can of Silicone spray. It's the one in the white bottle with the blue top. Spray that between the bearing and the spring and you'll NEVER hear it again. I promie. heh. This is something that the factory should have done.

I thought about spraying behind the pedal with lube or something like you mentioned. My noise was from the cmc, not the pedal, so I doubt spraying a spring with lube would have permanantly solved the issue.

damn i got a new clutch installed and while its at the dealer now theyre gettting the recalled part changed

still no ETA on the car I wonder when i can get it back
As much as the Fit feels like a lighter car (go kart like) it's not as fast or sure footed. It feels like they designed it to feel good at regular driving speeds but not for higher speeds or for being pushed hard. Passing on the highway is now a chore. It's not the point and squirt feel you get with my car.
Guess I'll bug them aga
