I just thought I would share some results from a recent test. There had been a few people in a different market that viewed porting and advanced ceramics as a bit of voodoo and no gains should have be seen from it. We politely corrected them and started to organize a test.
For this test we chose the SRT-4 (this was the same car that is in the market in question) and contacted AGP turbo and they were gracious enough to loan three manifolds and turbine housings for the test. MA Performance (a local tuning shop with a dyno) offered up the dyno for the test, and a local member in a car club donated his car for the test. Everything was in place for us at Form and Function Performance to do our thing to the manifolds. One manifold and turbine was left untouched, one was ported, and the last was ported and ceramic coated. Once this was all done, we headed over to MAP for the test.
After a shake down and a mile tune, we hooked up all the data logging gear and proceeded to dyno. All runs were done the same, three in a row, 4th gear pulls, with NO modifications from the previous runs. All runs were allowed to come to temp for the same amount of time before the pull. The only casualty was a broken EGT probe in the testing of the ported version so we have incomplete data for that which is unfortunate because typically we see reductions of EGTs when porting is involved.
Test car is a Dodge Neon SRT-4 with an AGP 50-trim, .63ar turbine housing, large FMIC, exhaust, return line and RRFPR, and a SAFC_neo for fuel/boost control. Boost was set at 24psi with 110 octane fuel for this test.
On with the pics and results!
Pics of the unported manifold and turbine:

Turbine to manifold transition (sharp lip IN the exhaust flow!! yuk!):
Ported version:

Ported and coated version:

Favorite pic INSIDE the volute of the turbine housing:
Another cool pic:
And last but not least, the pic of the dyno sheet (lowest was unmodified turbo/mani, middle was ported only, and highest was ported and coated):
Some key points are that spool was decreased by ~100rpm (always a good thing) and overall gains were up to ~17ftlbs/11tq for the porting alone and the coatings added ~7tq/5tq more on top of that.
Let me know what you think or if any of you want your kits form and functionalized

wow 7hp and 14tq from porting/coating.... nice. whats that cost the average consumer?

damn the srt-4 has a pretty restrictive IM. I wonder how restrictive is our IM.

Actually when you do both porting and coating it's more like ~24wtq/16whp
Pricing will depend on the kit but it's not bad all things considered. Typically they will range from $215-275 depending on the turbo. And that is with the porting and coatings (black or blue). Porting the manifold, turbine housing, and compressor cover when no elbow has been welded on the discharge, and coatings on the manifold, turbine housing, dump tube and O2 pipe.
Good stuff at good pricing!

This testing was on the exhaust mani and turbo not the intake manifold
The stock intake mani is pretty fair, but even so the ported version will still see +~8-12whp on a stock turbo and even more if it's a big turbo

OHHh ok. got it.

btw, i will be doing a dyno test on a ported and coated intake manifold soon! so look out for that in the next couple weeks

Not the first mani that I have done for this crowd, but the first to actually get hard #'s for us! Thanks again man!

so do i smell a turbo/manifold port/polish/coat GB for $200? or less... most of us run t3 turbines

Could be...
I'd be interested if there are more than 3-5 that are willing to..

what would the down time be on such a GB?

Depending on how many were interested, I would say ~2 weeks at most for a batch of 5... Right now timlines are great so it shouldn't be bad at all.

So MajorMods, Matteo, and username would be interested? If so, maybe two more guys can sign up and we can work something up.... I will say this though, the first one that is willing to do a before and after dyno for everyone here on the boards, will have a bigger discount on the work. ;P

me2, however I need a lower IM. The upper IM is being shipped to me, and I already have my buddies at the machine shop ready for the porting and coating
