How can I avoid the wheel hop...

I just went to the track tonight and was very dissapointed with my car... It was wheel hoping like crazy... and I already have MMIs, new BGII tranny fluid, and and a STS.. I dunno what else to do it wasnt like it was small wheel hop.. it was rediculous... The only performance thing I have done is a CAI... now I do have is some heavy/tacky chrome wheels... I dunno what do you guys think will get rid of it? Alloy rims?

Re: How can I avoid the wheel hop...

lighter wheels would help w/ the wheel hop but not sure how much. leave the chrome home. also, when you launch, slip out the clutch and dont necessarily dump it. raise to about 2500 to 3000 and slip it out. practice on a low traffic back road if you can.

Re: How can I avoid the wheel hop...

$4 wheel hop aid and solid motor mounts help out... but that could be seen as a bit extreme by most people.

I have the $4 aid, solid rear mount, front MMI and I have virtually no wheel hop.  Quite nice.

Re: How can I avoid the wheel hop...

do the $4 washer mod, it works pretty well. mostly, i think the chrome is your problem. all that unsprung weight is bouncing around and the energy has nowhere to disperse (wheelspin). use stock alloys, or even better, light rims.

Re: How can I avoid the wheel hop...

I tried the mmi with light weight wheels
Wheel tire combo weighed 35lb compared to 40lb for stock set up.
This did not work.
It may have added 1mph to my 1/8mile speed maybe?

Cutespec02's method of tying up the motor mounts, I think ,will be of greater help.

I’ll report back in about 6 weeks on Travis’s solid mount set up.

Re: How can I avoid the wheel hop...

lol technically i was joking. i meant to just drive like a grandma all the time. but i'm glad it worked. before i had my MMIs, if i dumped the clutch, it would hop into next week. now i know to use progressive inputs for the throttle and clutch.

Re: How can I avoid the wheel hop...

Yeah i have no wheel hop and i have my mounts filled with urethane and have some urethane frame member shims. Kindof like the metal ones but less vibrations. But yeah so the Wheel Hop Aid and Filled Mounts are the way to go.

Re: How can I avoid the wheel hop...

Get rid of the rubber subframe bushings and add motor mount inserts, you’re pretty much done.
