drag radial tire pressure

Tomorrow night I'm hitting the track w/. drag radials for the first time.
Q1: I'm driving there on them...about 35 miles. What tire pressure should I put them at?
Q2: What's a good pressure for racing? 20psi??

Thanks

Re: drag radial tire pressure

BFG says 15-20psi for theirs, not below 12psi I think.

Re: drag radial tire pressure

back up to recommended normal inflation.  why are you driving around on them, tho?   they're definitely not good in the rain, and you'll just quickly wear them out

So I don't have to change them there or leave my 2 centerlines on the ground.

Re: drag radial tire pressure

Take a tire gauge with you.  Drive there with them fully inflated. when you get there drop the pressure.  Most tracks have air at them, if so fill them up when you're done and ready to go home.  If not, hit up a gas station ASAP to get them back to normal PSI.

Its nice to switch at the track, if you have a friend going with you and not going to run, his trunk makes a good place to store wheels and tires, jack, tools, as well as anything else in your car that can flop around (and make you fail inspection) plus drop the extra weight.

Then again, it is nice to pull up and be ready to run.

Not a problem, like Hedi said, its best to save the meat on the DRs for the strip, however some highway driving isn't going to kill them.

I've known several people to run drag radials up front/on rear 100% of the time.

Like Hedi said though, you just got to play it easy.  However, I'm sure the BFG's specifically say not to store them in freezing conditions because it will damage them.

Re: drag radial tire pressure

im still using the bfgs on the front.  i dont want to buy new rims and they are the best hooking drag radial that i can fit on my car with no real drivability issues.  vq swaps are fun to drive on regular street tires for about 10 minutes, after that its no fun spinning everywhere.

Re: drag radial tire pressure

I ran at NYIRP in Leicester NY. got a 13.28.

I started tire pressure at 20, it got better at 17.5. Next time I want to drop it a little more.

Yes!
Smoking!

How was the hookup?

I can only tell how you are launching by your 60ft times.
Were they sub 2.0sec I hope?

My two cents on tire pressure:
Mark the tire and the rim do some burnouts and check the rim and tire marks. If there is no slippage between the tire and rim marks you are fine. If you find some slippage increase the tire pressure a few lbs/sq. in. until the slippage stops.
The lowest pressure without the tire slipping on the rim will be close.
Just my opinion.

+1 I daily my BFG's too there is just no hope for traction with reg street tires but you do wanna drive extra careful in the rain

exactly.  they arent bad in the rain because they have a very predictable spinning point.  after your first drive, you understand exactly how the tires react to the rain and your driving.
