First off I would like to say that this was not my idea (Sirl's was first), but since I didn't see the how to on MSV I figured I would post my version of building a in car camera mount for $15 or less.
Tools Needed:
Hack Saw
Metal File
Drill w/ 1/4" and 1/2" bits
Parts Needed:
1" Square Aluminum Tube - $11.27
Rubber Washer - $.58
1/4"-20 Thumb screw - $.50
1/4" Nut - $.10
Total - $12.45
This is the 4' section of aluminum tube that I bought from Home Depot. I only used about 21" of this so yes I still have enough left over for my friend's car. Also the Thumb screws came in 2 packs so I have everything we need for a second one for the same price.
Step one, cut in half w/ Hack Saw and use file to clean off sharp edges.
Step two, measure and mark where the 1/2" headrest holes will be drilled.
Now drill said holes. I went to my local shop and they poped the holes in for me for free on the drill press. I like being friend's w/ my mechanic.
Step three, cut end of tube at an angle so that you can access the screw which will go inside of the tube. Don't forget to clean up the edges with the file.
Step four, drill the 1/4" hole near end of tube so that thumb screw can be accessed with the angled cut on the end and install camera. - DONE!!

As long as you aren't perfect on drilling the holes for the headrest you shouldn't need any set screws to hold it in place. I have enough friction on the headrest studs that the mount stays in place without any problems, also the soft aluminum won't hurt the headrest studs if it rubs.
You can see here how it is mounted - Thumb screw, nut, tube, rubber washer, camera
And the view from inside the car - Angle can be adjusted by changing the angle of the passenger seat. This will also be just below eye level so it will be a good spot for most inside camera work.

Good write up... but I'd like to add something. If you go to a ritz camera store, you can buy a camera mount. This way you can adjust up/down/360 degrees. Also, I used a piece of hard wood.. worked well.

Yeah Mitch I like yours but I was going for cheep. I might add that later but for now I can adjust the angle up and down by changing the seat angle.

Looks good.
FYI: It doesn't work for cameras with hard drives...Too much vibration. My HDD JVC cam shuts down after few seconds because of the vibration.

Yeah I thought about that, but I'll only have it in the car when I have a helmet on and I'll put the passenger seat all the way back so that it isn't next to my head.

Also if you notice the sony DV cam that I have was making some loud clicking noises from the vibration, I'm going to be looking at some solid state cams(SD card) and for now I'll just use the digital camera in movie mode to avoid any damage to the moving parts in the camcorder.

I'm going to be using my camera as well in movie mode. It does HD 720p

I used a piece of wood also and then I painted it black so it would look so bad.
I noticed that the way the previous guys set it up in the middle is a little too close to my head and I was afraid of hitting myself with it so I moved a little to the passenger side.
I used my lil web cam as an example because I found it really hard to leave the camera in the mount and take a picture of it with it

Parking Lot Trackstar...

This thing just needs some sort of lense cap pouch so the lense cap doesn't flap around like a maniac.
Other than that, good stuff.
I'm probably going to end up doing Aluminum tube with the 360 mount.
