this has probably been done on here somewhere, but here i go anyways.

so you wanna get rid of some sort of badge for whatever reason. quite understandable. i did this project with a minimum of resources, as i was too lazy to really get some stuff together to make it effortless.

What you need:

-an hour or so of your time
-a clean rag or paper towel
-"Goo Gone" ($5.99 for a container that you can use for a year)

DO NOT USE "GOOF OFF", A SIMILAR LOOKING PRODUCT THAT IS A LOT STRONGER. YOU'LL STRIP THE PAINT OFF YOUR CAR. before using the right product, like the bottle says, test in on a hidden area so you can see the reaction it has.

-dental floss or fishing line
-hair dryer. (NOTE: this isn't that important, but it just makes it easier on your fingernails if you heat up the crap as you go along. i didn't use one and it still came out well.)
-a beer or two.

won't be like that for long. wait until after you finish to wash the car because you are going to be making slight mess anyways.

grab your fishing line or floss and gently slip it between the badge/emblem and the bodywork. start working it back and forth, separating the 2 surfaces. fishing line is a hell of a lot stronger, but i had floss laying around and it was free, so i used that. the floss might start to unravel and break after a while, but if you double loop it you'll be alright. work slowly.

(Note: some cars have the emblems lined up into the panel using predrilled holes from the factory. find out if your car has this before you pull off the badge.)

after you get the letters off, you're left with this lovely goddamn glue to deal with. remember, before you use the right cleaner, test it somewhere that won't be highly visible to see if your paint will react badly. the last thing you want is a big blemish. the method that worked for me was to lightly wet a rag with the Goo Gone and get as much of the adhesive as wet as possible. keep working it in there using circular motion to move it around, and then let it sit for maybe a minute. use your fingernails to then scrape the crap off until it gets dry and sticky again.

keep repeating the process until it's reasonably clean.

if you look close you can see a small line of glue that was there from the previous owner, when he took off the dealer sticker. while i was at it i knocked that out too. goo gone works wonders!

and after more work, just rubbing and scraping

if you've ever worked on cars, you know that things can go from 1 hr to 3 hrs to 1 day to a week. that's being absolutely ridiculous, in this case, but i always like to allow myself extra time to do something. besides, ain't no point to rush when you're working on your car

you can also remove the glue with a pinstripe removing wheel. just be really REALLy careful to not hit an area too hard with it. you can get them in most any body shop store or if you have a reasonably knowledgable chap at the local O'Reillys/Pepboys/etc.

all glue. and thanks for the write-up got rid of the "sentra" for now, took about 15 min. using dental floss (bubble gum flavored ;O ) and some good ol' goo gone.

How do you get the black marks to come off? I used the Goo Gone and all the glue from the SER badge on the fender and my Sansone dealership badge on the trunk is gone but the black marks around it still stayed no matter how long I scrubbed it for.

I used WD40, an expired credit card and an alcohol prep pad for mine and it worked with no probs. Took me bout 15 minutes for both Sentra and Hamburger..

I took off the badge and it has the outline mark, which is a faded black around the outside of where the badge use to be.
I'll take pictures tomorrow morning. I put as little as 10 minutes into non stop rubbing with the Goo Gone and the black mark didn't really change. Its kind of like the hamburger but not in that shape.

don't do non stop rubbing. wet a cloth with some goo gone and then kinda dab it on but with more liquid than dabbing. let it sit for a few minutes, but not too long. then rub away.

because the goo gone has a chance to sink in and try to permeate the gunk you're trying to get off. rather than bombing the shit off like bleach, it's a solvent that takes a little time.

for mine i used my fingernail to slowly scratch/peel the black lettering away after letting some googone soak into it. you can kinda see what i mean in this picture. hope it helps.

yeah i had the same problem especially with the burger. just keep soaking and rubbing with a cloth.

My mark isn't glue though if that's what you think it is. All the glue came off, I'm just left with that black mark where you can't feel it. I took a picture of it that was left on the fender but it wasn't that noticable.

But here's the one on the trunk where I had the dealership badge under the SENTRA. You could see the top part of the badge.

And I just waxed my car yesterday so I don't know if I should bother trying to use the goo gone now. Should I?

i have the same kind of residue from a stupid dealer badge too. just keep washing the car and spray water there often (that's what i do. may not help, but it makes me feel better about it). other than that, either ignore it, or keep trying to clean. some things will never come off. you might want to try a clay bar or something of the sort. look in the clean/detailing section for more help on this one.

it's all just patience and elbow grease. take your time and don't expect it all to come off right away. that stuff is meant to be there for the life of the car, so it's going to put up a fight.

I debadged my car yesterday. I only used dental floss, hot water, and a rag.Instead of beer, i used monster energy drink, seemed to work well. It took me about an hour, but it only felt like 2 or 3!Im going to put that 5$ i saved from not buying goo gone, to buying a CAI...or a big mac combo.

Good solution if you're getting some black outlines is to give it a good two coats of wax. If that doesn't work then go to the autoshop and buy some Meguiars' Scratch X. That stuff will do wonders. If that doesn't work then you might want to try some 1500 grit sandpaper and some polish. I'll try to find the exact recipe for that, though.

EDIT: Wet sand the area with 1500 grit or finer, then remove the sandpaper marks with rubbing compound then wax. Before you do that though you might want to try a clay bar, water and a bit of elbowgrease because it does take a bit of experience.

I have an 03 and I am worried that if I take the badges off the back that there is going to be lighter colored paint underneath that still show the outline of whatever I take off. What worries me is that the paint around the badges was exposed to sunlight for 5 years and the paint underneath the badges wasnt. Any suggestions other than to hike my skirt up and just do it?

you could always take it off, clean it up, and wax it. then see how it looks. if it's discolored, which it really shouldn't be, you can always buy a little square of double sided tape (which is what the factory uses), trim it to fit the SER/hamburger/whatever, then slap it back on.
