Have you ever noticed on the new spec-v's that they now come with a dual gauge cluster on the center bin dash. well, i came up with an idea on how to modify our sentra's to have this. All you need is the 2007 SE-R dual gauge housing and your lid off the center bin.

With a dremel tool, you can cut out the holes necessary to fit the gauge housing. Using the square gauge piece, use this as a template to draw out the holes. I would suggest to cut the holes a little smaller than the template so you can sand down the holes to make them longer or wider for a perfect fit.
And you also must cut out the gauge housing to directly fit the housing making it flush with the lid. I had to spread out the gauge housing so the lid can go back on. With some Loctite Xtreme Repair Adhesive glue, you can mount the gauge housing and it should end up looking like this.

Mine is not done yet but i'm taking mine to a collision center i work at and i'm gonna have the bondo the housing and shave it smooth and paint it. Hopefully mine should look like it was stock. I'll update once finished. Let me know what you guys like of my idea. Maybe worth of a sticky?
So i finally got to see my gauge housing project after a guy at my work finished the bondo'ing and sanding part. this is what it looks like now:

The guy used a epoxy glue called Cool Blue and is easy to work with. you just mix this stuff and apply on the gaps. then you let it set for about 30 minutes so the poxy and dry and cure. From there, it's all sanding. My gauge housing get painted on monday so hopefully around middle of next week it should be finished. i'll post up once done.
UPDATE ON 9-1-07
Like i said, it's finally done!!!

I'll have some more pictures of it installed once i wire my gauges correctly
FINISHED!

What size gauges will fit in there? Def has potential for some hotness.

i found out i can get 52mm gauges in there. if you look closely, i have two autometer guages perfectly in there. nice and snug. all you need is some glue to get them is there really good.

Offline

Jeff

yea my stock gauges are 52mm as he stated. It will be snug fit with aftermarket and remember some gauge companies have deeper gauges than others, like Megan Racing, but if autometer fits, then hey, thats a HUGE plus! nice job and continue the write up as u progress. Make sure u take pics during the bondo, sanding process along with painting it. Write the grit paper used, the glue used, etc. so its a true How To: and we'll sticky it up and give ya credit for this GREAT IDEA!

it would have been easier to cut the square part into the lid and just mold it in using fiberglass...but so far so good...

actually, i thought of that but i wanted the gauges to sink in. not stick out. plus the whole square part is fairly large and even with it cut, it still wouldn't have cleared the drilled holes to put the lid back in. so i spaced the gauge housing out a little further and made it even.

Wow, I want to see how this comes out.

cool man, like the others said update your progress id like to see how it turns out, so far so good though.

hell yea going to look good as shit

as i thought, the guy who is doing the bondo'ing wont be able to take photo's of the process. but i need your guy's input. should i paint the lid black or get it painted vinyl so the lid with the gauges could look stock again?

nice Idea I like to have mine inside the the bin so that I can keep them shut and as stock looking as possiable. so far I should be able to fit 3 prosport 52mm premium gauges in there
I would bring it as close to oem as possiable as far as color and texture

Where can I get the '07 dual gauge housing?

IMAO its funny you say that cause thats what i did.
but i work at a nissan dealer. but i basically drove off so nobody would see me and i just grabbed it! it's REALLY simple. they just pop off and there's one wire clip to unhook.

Beow is making mine hehe...can't wait...

wow haha and you actually got away with that?? i was gonna do that for a 350z antenna haha but for those of us who cant do that how do we get a gauge housing??
Offline

Chris

i would try junk yards first. second, i would try to visit the parts depo at the dealer and see if they can just sell you a housing. i doubt it thou cause the oil and lateral G gauge is screwed into the housing. i'm assuming you would have to buy the whole top part which can get expensive. if you really wanted to go another route, try looking up cars that have some kind of gauge housing that you could get cheaper. or if you know what your doing, just fiberglass your own.

Very nice. I've been trying to figure out how to get some aftermarket gauges there and I've basically tried the same thing only I used cheap a-pillar r gauge pods and cut it out around the edge just like you did, but I didn't go as far as cutting the stock lid yet just in case it doesn't work out right or look good I can put it back to stock. I'm still thinking about how I'm going to do it. I need to learn how to do custom fiber glass...

Offline

Chris

ask beow. i've heard he knows about fiber glassing.

maybe by wed i should have this in and with a picture

Noice! I planned on doing a similar project with the 350z gauge cluster, looks like you get props for being one of the first.

Thats a great How To! I will be using this in the future!

thanks bro!

it's all done. it fits perfect. the gauges don't weigh the lid down. everything is solid. i'm genius!

Michael

Now make mine.

damn that looks good. got a pic of it with the top open so i can see how much space is compromised for the gauges? willing to do these and sell them out? i'd be interested.

That looks awesome
Do you think some MR gauges would fit in there?

Offline

Chris

MR's? i have no clue. I would say as long as there 52mm and with some loctite plastic repair adhesive, they'll fit! as far as me making these and selling them? probably not. if i had more time to do this maybe but this was basically an idea that turned out awesome.

Offline

lookin good, I just need some stuff to go with some gauges.

siqq. Nice work. I wanted to try to mold a 3x gauge pod up there, but my glassing skills suck

Very nice, best I've seen so far. Do you think there is any way to fit 3 pods in there?? Nice job.

Yeah I'd be up for a group buy or something. I don't really have the time, materials, or the facilities to make something like that.
But that is a damn nice job. You should consider a group buy! Let us know!

today i found out that in the regular b15 sentra's, the 1.8, that the center bin in the dash has no lid! it just one solid piece of plastic. i'll take a picture soon so i can show you what i mean but with is type of bin setup. i would think 4 gauges could fit in there. and on the GB thing, i'll see on that. the materials i used where not cheap cause if i make something, i make solid, smooth, and close to stock looking as possible.

Offline

Norberto

I don't care about being cheap on this kind of thing anywayz, I'd pay$$$ good for this, looks stock! Was it easy to wire the guages?

If you make me one of these, I will pay whatever you demand, as long as its not a retarded price. Ill pay materials and whatever you want labor as long as I get the same quality you put into yours Im very negotiable.

Ok, so here it is. my idea to fit a cluster of gauges.
this is the only way to fit more than two gauges in this area. i'm not too sure but i bet you could fit maybe 5 gauges if there all tight together. but that would look sick as hell. just having a fleet of gauges!

i'm not too sure. i was thinking of maybe doing this but i have limited amount of time cause of college and i need the materials. i'm going to the paint depo tomorrow and see if they have what i need cheap. but the bitch part will be the gauge housing cause the gauge housing i have was one from a new spec-v. i just jacked it and cut them out. but i need to look into more about where i can get the housing.
