How To: SpecV Audio Install

Step 1: Disconnect Battery.

This way you don't short something while installing your new head unit.

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_2_full.jpg

Step 2: Remove storage bin.

Just grab the storage and pull towards you. It's held in by 2 retainer clips.

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_3_full.jpg

Step 3: Disconnect emergency flasher connector.

I think the FSM said to do this, but I didn't bother.

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_4_full.jpg

Step 4: Set storage bin on dash.

If you didn't disconnect the flashers, just set it on top of the dash.

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_5_full.jpg

Step 5: Remove lower bezel.

Get your fingers around the back of the bezel and pull it towards you. I had a bit of trouble doing this. I could only get a grip on the left side so I just pryed it off and then the right came off easily. Don't worry about breaking it, just pull as hard as you can :) The retaining clips will come off sooner or later.

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_6_full.jpg

Step 6: Remove 6 screws.

You should have 6 screws exposed. 2 up on top, 2 in the middle, and 2 on the bottom.

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_7_full.jpg

Step 7: Pull out radio/AC unit

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_8_full.jpg

Step 8: Disconnect 3 connectors & antenna wire

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_9_full.jpg

Step 9: Unscrew 4 torque (star) screws

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_11_full.jpg

Step 11: Install new head unit

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_12_full.jpg

Step 12: Connector M45.

This is the connector you'll be splicing into for your power and accessory line. It's 1 of the 3 you pulled from the back of the stock head unit.

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_13_full.jpg

Step 13: Cut & label battery and accessory wires.

The battery wire is blue/gray and the accessory wire is pink. There are also wires to control the dimmer on your Head Unit, but my head unit doesn't support this so I didn't look it up.

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_14_full.jpg

Step 14: Add bullet connectors.

I added bullet connectors to the 4 wires running to my head unit (power, accessory, remote, ground)

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_15_full.jpg

Step 15: Connect bullet connectors

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_16_full.jpg

Step 16: Connect ground wire.

I connected mine to a support to what looks like the blower

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_17_full.jpg

Step 17: Run RCA wires & remote amp wire.

I just kept poking the RCA's until the came out the other side. The RCA's will run down the center of the car, the power on the passenger side and the speaker on the driver side. You want to seperate these to minimize interferance (inductance).

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_18_full.jpg

Step 18: zip tie everything together.

It makes the installation looks cleaner and is easier to put in/take out

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_19_full.jpg

Step 19: Reassemble.

Just do everything backwards and it should all go back together.

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/454000-454999/454426_20_full.jpg

Step 20: Finished!

Re: How To: SpecV Audio Install

Thanks a lot

But I would, instaed of cutting the wire of the car, buy a 10$ piece that I call a "break out"  (this is how we call it at work)
http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii153/warwolf7/DSC00544.jpg

and make the connection in your home with the break out that goes into your radio. When you install your radio, the only thing you have to do is just to screw and plug, no need to make any connection while sitting in the car... which is good. And, the car's wire are completly intact!

I have one question though. I saw that I have tweeter in front and in the back (I don't have the subwoofer) I see a bigger speaker then the 2 others, how does the connection work? What is used in the car: active or non-active cross-over? (not sure about the therm I'm french)

Does this wiring diagram apply to spec V sentra?

Great write up

Re: How To: SpecV Audio Install

I think all the Spec V's come with a "subwoofer" located in between the two back speakers on the back deck. It's pretty small (roughly 6.5-7") but only produces low frequency audio compared to the full range speakers in the rest of the car. It's supposed to give the system a more full sound, but in all honesty, i wasn't impressed. Plus being on the back deck, it get's heat soaked by the sun which probably doesn't help. Nissan really should've put it in the side of the trunk or something and used an 8". Keep in mind though, i have the non-rockford system, so it might be different for the one's who have it.

If you notice, there are three plugs on the back of the factory (non-rockford) deck. One plug for power, front speakers, dimmer, remote, battery (for some stereos). One plug for ground, and back speakers. And one for what i can only assume is the subwoofer. You only use the first two plugs for an aftermarket deck, so be prepared to lose the factory subwoofer whenever you install another head unit (unless you can find someway to decode wires on the plug and make it work...i chose not to since my subwoofer sounded pretty bad anyway).

I plan on just grabbing a small 10" woofer in a box and an amp to throw in the trunk to round out the sound as it were. You could probably find some way to rig up a small aftermarket subwoofer to go in the same spot to give it a more factory look (you will need an aftermarket amp of some sort and the subwoofer should probably be classified as "free air" since it wouldn't be in a box).

Re: How To: SpecV Audio Install

thats not a good grounding point for the headunit. he didn't ground it to actual metal. just to plastic. this can cause the headunit to overheat. make sure you're grounding to METAL.

Just to plastic... HE meant the ring of the screw is only touching plastic. the ring should touch the metal. That's what he meant.

If it ain't connected to metal, this ain't no ground. I would like you to delete your post, your giving false information, the ground is not in any way a heatsink! If you connect you ground to a plastic thing what happens? The radio doesn't work because the DC need to be connected into a kind of loop and the ground is the "return" cable. This forum is about giving useful information, not misinformation.

IF you don't know what your talking about, shut up and listen.

Kindly

Matt

(just for you information, there is no picture showing where is ground cable is connected, I don't know where you saw that, maybe you posted in the wrong thread)

who the hell are you talking to? i know exactly what i'm talking about. don't talk down to me like a fucking little kid. i'm advanced mecp certified, i've done installs for years AND i work for a manufacturer. locals can vouch for my knowledge and work. so i think its you who needs to shut up and listen.

first of all, the ground he used IS pictured. maybe you need to stop running your mouth and open your eyes. the screw that he used connected to a metal brace, however his ring terminal simply touches plastic.

secondly, when you don't use a proper ground, the DC current is not flowing to a proper ground. just because a radio has a ground, doesn't mean its a PROPER ground, numbnuts. go back to high school electronics class before opening your mouth. when a piece of equipment does not have a proper ground, it can cause it to overheat. the negative current needs to flow to metal. when it doesn't, it has no where to go. leading to HEAT. do your homework.

you're right, this forum is about information. something you know nothing about apparently.

Re: How To: SpecV Audio Install

lol yeah ok buddy. you sure changed your tone after you got schooled. any retard doing anything electrical should know damn well that if you're going to ground something, it needs to be a proper ground. not a ring terminal touching plastic secured on by screw going into metal. current needs to flow in the same way it flows out. if it doesn't, it can build up heat.

easy enough to understand?

Re: How To: SpecV Audio Install

that may not be the best spot for a ground but it is more than good enough as long as it is secured properlyand how much of a load could that little headunit have. the wire itsself is probobly only an 18g if that. no need to overreact.the gut did a great job with his pics and whatnot.
p.s.im a union electrition and i took dc theory for years and have installed car stereos in numerous cars

Re: How To: SpecV Audio Install

i never said it wouldn't work or anything, but i mean a good ground is a good ground. i was simply stating thats not the best ground. yes, it is only an 18ga but why half ass it when you can simply slide that ring terminal behind the plastic or many other places behind the radio to give it a better ground?
