i made this thread due to the fact that the "how to: drag race" thread says nothing about how to lauch.
please note that this is my way of launching, and it works best for me, and all of my buddies do it also... this way gets the least wheelspin, but yet the car still takes off fast and does not bog down. and please note that you have to do all of this very quickly, as the staging process doesn't last very long...
1. after you stage, set your rpm to your desired launch. (2000 rpm will barely spin at all, it may bog a little, but it will still get off the line decently. 2500 will chirp and then leave like crazy, but please note that i have some pretty sticky tires. 3k will spin some, but when it moves it leaves hard, this tactic is best for high trap speeds.)
2. after your rpms are set, pull the ebrake, hard.
3. ease out of the clutch, very very slightly, until you feel the car try to pull, but cannot due to the fact that the brake is pulled. around here we call this preloading the suspension. it helps reduce spinning because the car is already in the "moving position" instead of it being a huge shock when you dump the clutch.
4. leave on the last yellow light, don't be expecting it though, you'll foul, but if you wait for the green your r/t will be horrible. as you leave, get out of the clutch fairly quickly, but don't just dump it, counter the reduced clutch with increased throttle. and well, that's about it.
guys, i hope you know that not everyone is going to favor this method, but it's the method that works best for me and everyone around here. have fun, and good luck getting a .500 or a .000, whichever your local track goes by

heres a tip, Dont look at the tree, look at the end of the track, you react faster to things in your peripheral vision.

Another tip/fact: reaction time does not affect your 1/4 time. so if you're just out for times, and not actually racing, don't worry about how fast you leave at the light. timing doesn't start until you break the beam of light, so you can sit there for 5 seconds with the green light, and as long as you don't trip the timing lights, your time is not affected.

QFT. The first time I ran against my buddy's Max, the lights went green and we just sat there looking stupid for a full 2 seconds before launching. Granted it was the first time at the track for both of us.

i go for times only so i am the queen of sitting at the light. and the only time i get really into leaving quickly, i fuck up and run bad. i have like 2.--- reaction times it's awesome. i don't care... i'd rather get my money worth and run good times than try to beat the other person off the line.

Lol. That makes me feel better. I didn't realize how nerve-racking the whole thing is until they waved me forward into the staging area. Bright lights, lots of people looking at you, and some A hole announcer that felt like talking trash about my import. The guy throwing water in the burnout area took my "no thank you" as a "oh, he wants more" and emptied the bucket. Being on street tires, I skipped it, and he gave me a dirty look because he though he was doing me a favor, haha. *sigh*
The second time around went much better, but man, the first time racing is definitely an experience.

first time i went was in the auto se-r. i rolled past the staging lights, haha.
i wanna smack the englishtown announcer. i found out he talks a lot of shit about my car. on my run when the flywheel broke off he said "well, that's pretty fast for a sentra." i ran a 14.5 at 101... seriously, everyone there knew something was up witn my car. he's called my car a "sentra r type" lots too.

glad i could help, i've been around the vboard (before it went bye bye), and the b15sentra forums for a while now, and never did see a write up on this so i figured what the hell, this might help out some of these guys.

this is a great write up. if anyone ever goes to the strip soon, grab a camera and film the run, pointing out the do's and don'ts of drag racing. i'm looking to hit the strip for my first time this summer and i know i'd find a video like that extremely helpful.
